Budget Kitchen Makeover

Before: The original kitchen looked dated and tired. The layout was not well thought out and the work space of the kitchen wasn’t ergonomically designed. So, the wall between the kitchen and dining room was knocked down to create one large space.

After: This kitchen was achieved on a low budget - but how did they create such a classy look?

Create A Focal Point

The island unit provides vital extra work space and a focal point to the new design. Three quarter height kitchen units along on wall provide extra storage and work space but don’t make the kitchen feel as enclosed as using full height units. The central island unit makes a great place for friends to sit and chat and have a drink. It also provides lots of extra work and storage space. These units are Faktum and Abstrakt units, Ikea. Find out how to create a focal point in your rooms by browsing our gallery.

Choose A Grown Up Colour Scheme

The black gloss bar stools influenced the black and chrome colour scheme of the kitchen. The black units and high gloss floor tiles give the kitchen a luxurious, grown-up glamorous feel that, thanks to their high sheen, doesn’t make it feel dark or gloomy. Splashes of lime green and turquoise in the dining furniture tie in with the kitchen accessories. Browse our gallery of black kitchens for more colour scheme inspiration.

Open Up The Indoors To The Garden

Full length bi-fold glass doors were added to let in much more daylight and also to make the garden more part of the living area in the summer. These doors are softened with attractive fringe curtains which surprisingly still let in a lot of daylight. Extra windows were added over the three quarter height unit to bring extra light into the room. For more ways to open up your home to the garden, browse our gallery.

Hide Away Clutter

To keep the kitchen looking as sleek and professional as possible, work surface clutter is limited to a minimum. Here, the kettle, mugs, tea and coffee canisters are hidden away behind a trambour unit. For more clever kitchen storage ideas, see our gallery.

Conjure Up The Feeling Of Luxury

The kitchen has been planned to perfection and no small detail overlooked, including the addition of a slimline B&Q wine cooler, adding to the wow factor and luxury of this kitchen design.

A simple stainless steel round sink and matt silver tap finish off the kitchen perfectly. Like the rest of the kitchen this simple yet elegant style looks so good and works well. Sink, rux110, Franke.
