Before: This bedroom had all the right starting points – an original fireplace, an attractive ceiling and period style alcove cupboards – but it had no character.
After: The trick was to introduce muted, restful tones, without detracting from period detailing.
Choose The Right Colour Scheme
Colour scheming well in a bedroom is a must – anything too bold or bright can make the room less than soothing.
Blues are traditional a calming colour, while muted browns help make a room feel inviting. Put them together and you have both an interesting contrast and a great combination of colours.
Here, the browns have been used as the background colour, with touches of blue on the cupboards and an exact match on the upholstery of the bedhead.
Choose Practical Flooring
Period wooden furniture in deep, warm tones help give the room a more traditional feel and pick up the colours in the wooden flooring.
Draw Attention To The Focal Point
An upholstered chaise longue draws attention to the attractive bay window and underlines the fact that this bedroom is for relaxing in. Find out how to create a focal point in our feature.
