Before: The bedroom was a bare shell with unpainted timber and plasterboard walls.
After: The room was given a fun, seaside theme in light colours that helps make the most of the space.
Add A Roof Window
The lack of natural daylight was solved with the addition of a large Velux window, placed centrally on one of the sloping ceiling walls. Use our guide to roof windows to pick yours.
Use A Pale Colour Scheme
The plasterboard, once plastered, was painted bright white throughout to help the room feel as spacious as possible. The wooden beams were also given a limewash effect with watered down emulsion paint. Find out how to make your dark bedroom lighter with our inspirational gallery.
Add Warmth
The warm wood of the floor helps give the room a more welcoming feel, especially when part covered with non-matching, brightly coloured rugs. Find out more about wood flooring in our guide.
Tie Your Scheme Together
Bright bunting, which picks up the colours of the bedlinen, accessories and paintings, help tie the scheme together, add a splash of colour to an otherwise plain room and draw the eye upwards towards to exaggerate the height of the ceiling.
The seaside theme is continued with a garden chair being used at the whitewashed desk/dressing table. Other accessories pick up the theme – from the rope ball, to the driftwood picture frame on the bedside table. Find out how to colour scheme in our dedicated pages.
