Future Antiques. Make & Save Money At Home

18. Buy Now, Save Later

Got spare cash to treat yourself this weekend? Enough of throwaway fashion, we want something we’ll still love in 10 years, and that will be worth more than it was when we bought it. We’re thinking antiques of the future. Find out here what Naomi Cleaver, Kelly Hoppen, Tom Dixon, Wayne Hemingway and Thorsten Van Elten think we should be buying now.

19. Know Your Stuffing

About to go off and buy a sofa? Don’t even think about it until you’ve read 10 Questions To Ask When Buying A Sofa - it’s packed with all the info you need to make an informed choice… after which you can look at our sofa buyer’s guide to find out where to splash your cash.

20. Do It Properly

Yes, DIY is back, thanks to the credit crunch. But, this time, forget Handy Andy, mdf and bodging, it’s all about knowing how to boost your home’s value with quality over cheap, quick fixes.

21. Spot A Problem

Why not spend the weekend taking on one of those major jobs – even if it’s just going through the phone directory to line up local craftsmen to quote? If you’re planning to sell your home in the near future, sorting out big problems, such as structural cracks, damp or plumbing problems before you put it on the market is a must.

22. Don’t Do This

So, we’ve persuaded you to take on a DIY job this weekend? Find out what not to do first so that you don’t spend the weekend devaluing your home.

  1. I have bought a one bed Victorian flat with single glazed sash windows.I would like to double glaze them to retain heat and reduce noise. Would it be possible to do, would it be expensive and how would I find a glazier that could supply and fit the windows?
