There are lots of very general pieces in the newspapers about average UK house prices – both in terms of asking prices and sold prices – but very little regional detail. So, how do you find out what’s happening in your area? There are lots of quick ways to check – but bear in mind that figures are gathered differently for England and Wales, and Scotland and Northern Ireland – and that they don’t all agree with each other.
4Homes runs a quarterly, reader-friendly rundown of the average regional UK house prices – plus comments from experts with predictions of what they think UK house prices will do in the future. We try to take an overall view of what’s happening region by region and nationally to give you a true picture.

The BBC’s news website also runs a table of regional UK house prices figures, splitting the prices into flats, semis, terraced or detached houses. You can also discover the sales total for your area, and find out the price changes in the past year or quarter.
Rightmove has a helpful page that will assist you in checking out whether the asking price you’ve put on your home matches up to others in your region – the graphs also show just what asking prices are doing at the moment.
HousePricesUK.net has a number of handy links to other sites that also give house market round ups. They are also developing a house price predictor – although as we all know, this is a tricky science.
The Land Registry figures (for England and Wales) are a good place to start researching UK house prices trends. There is also regularly updated news about what is happening nationally.
The Halifax house price index is a reliable source of information about what house prices have been doing in your area in the past couple of months – there’s also expert comment from their analysts which is always worth checking out.
Housepricecrash.co.uk is a useful place to look for news and links to other UK house prices websites.
PropertySnake.co.uk is a site that tracks house price reductions across the UK.
