Once you have an idea of what properties have sold for nearby, you can then use several sites which will help you work out how much your property is worth by applying how much property prices have increased since you bought it.
There are three ways you can do this:
* Visit Nationwide's house price homepage and put in the price you paid for your property and then the quarter/year you bought it (or you think the seller bought it in).
* Repeat this exercise using the Hbos house price calculator.
* If bought after 2000, you can use the Land Registry site. Put in your postcode, scroll down the results until you reach the information that gives the price changes for detached/semi/terraced and flats. Apply this percentage rise/fall to the price you bought your property type for, or you think/know when the seller bought it).
