Property Ladder
Poole
Sarah Beeny looks on in alarm as sisters Tanya and Natalie Milton commit the cardinal sin of property development - falling in love with their property.
The object of their affection is a four bedroom 1930s art deco house in Poole, Dorset and they are about to embark on the biggest spending spree of their lives. Yet they set off without an architect, a surveyor or, indeed, any plans. Making it up on the hoof seems to be the order of the day.
When it comes to budget, their formula seems to be "think of a figure, triple it and then overspend anyway". £30,000 on a pink and purple kitchen and £2,500 on digital ceramic tiles in the downstairs loo are par for the course for Natalie. Sister Tanya tries but fails miserably to reign in her spending.
On top of this Natalie’s taste is not only highly distinctive but in complete contrast to what you’d expect to find within an Art Deco house. Sarah is concerned that not only is there budget out of control but also their design – are they creating a house so niche that the only person who’d be willing to pay top whack for it is Natalie herself?
