Property problems

Ed Latimer-Sayer (32) lives in a three-storey terrace in Nottingham while girlfriend Becca Branch lives just a few doors down. Becca wants to move in with Ed, but his catastrophic interior design decisions have turned what should be a spacious townhouse into a chaotic and cramped bachelor pad.

Ed wanted to create a bold, opulent look in the house, but he’s gone too far. Downstairs in the living room, dark orange walls, huge black-framed mirrors and overbearing black leather sofas were Ed’s attempt at creating a cosy yet spacious living area, but Becca thinks they make it more like a 1980s bodybuilder’s gym. In the kitchen, dark grey units surround a large, obstructive peninsula, which makes the space claustrophobic.

The first floor bathroom walls feature a disgusting brown marble effect, beige carpet inexplicably covers the sides of the bath and Ed has gone Artex-crazy in the corner creating a bizarre ‘rock formation’. In fact, Artex covers virtually every wall. Next door to the bathroom is Ed’s tiny, dingy office where he spends hours every day working from home.

On the top floor is Ed’s Japanese-themed bedroom and large but completely unused landing space, despite it being the most airy and light space in the house. The Japanese theme extends from the bedroom into the landing in the form of small indoor rockery nestled at the top of the stairs.

Ed has over-decorated individual rooms without considering the flow of space in the house. And Becca won’t move in until he’s fixed it. Naomi needs to help him transform his garish bachelor pad into a house they can both live in.
