Paul and Yasmin Taylor live in a two-up-two-down semi-detached house in Glasgow with their 4 year old daughter, Olivia. Yasmin has a creative spirit that Paul has not been able to tame, resulting in a house that’s afflicted with design overkill. The garish, overwhelming orange walls in the hallway, lead up a mosaic-tiled staircase to Yasmin’s piece de resistance – a large papier mache sun.
Meanwhile, the kitchen is small, and made worse by multi-coloured units and more of Yasmin’s tiling, giving the room the feel of a cramped Mexican restaurant. Crammed into this tiny room is the family dining area, which is in no way conducive to a relaxed dining experience. And the only family bathroom is tiny and downstairs, which means that Yasmin is up and down the stairs several times during the night with Olivia.
