Jane and Gavin bought a disused chapel on the Cornwall/Devon border at auction. The chapel conversion was their dream of escaping from city and office life to an idyllic spot in the country.

The couple were living in Birmingham - Jane working for Hewlett Packard and Gavin travelling to different jobs as a management consultant, but decided to make a mad dash for the countryside and a more laid back way of life.
Local architect David Shepherd came up with a bold design that includes an interior garden with exotic plants, a suspended central staircase and a series of low bridges. The chapel also needed to provide a state-of-the-art working environment for Jane, who was planning to telework once the couple had moved in. In a more traditional vein, Kevin and David Shepherd developed a colour scheme based on local materials and buildings.
