The Frame House
Design brief -
A timber framed house offering fast build, low cost, warmth and personality combined with maximum flexibility and daylight was our aim. An environmental agenda within the constraints of city living was key.
How the brief was met -
This project represents an ongoing interest in timber framed structures applied to small scale residential developments combined with an environmentally responsible approach to building. Changing family requirements are accommodated by demountable partitioning and non-reliance on load bearing walls. Storage and service areas are located around the perimeter of the building, forming a buffer to the party walls and maximising space within. Open plan living spaces visually connect the front courtyard to the back garden. Use of natural products and extensive use of timber in cladding and structure defines this house. A biomass boiler contributes to winter heating. The house is solar thermal in summer.
