The Long Barn
Design brief -
A carefully considered conversion of a Bedford ' Model Barn' into a modernist, elegant insertion into the original building, leaving the external envelope lightly touched from its origins to maintain the integrity of the original architecture whilst expressing the modernist conversion of our time.
How the brief was met -
A tight budget of £700sqm was met, fabulous open spaces were created which evoke the original cathedral-like spaces of the barn. Economical use of materials was essential (Ikea carcasses and plywood). Innovative design details of materials (pebble dash etc), sustainable materials, sustainable design, rainwater harvesting, reed beds and a wind turbine all make for an exciting home!
