Ribbon Rocking Chair by Katie Walker Furniture, £4,000.
To create a rocking chair from one continuous band of wood is an ingenious achievement. Not only functional, the Ribbon Rocking Chair is also very light and visually stunning. The backrest, arm rests and runners create one single fluid form, and although the ribbon, ash framework and leather seat are not independently strong, the union of all the components produces a strong rigid structure. The designer has taken inspiration from a Naum Gabo sculpture of a basket by Japanese maker Shounsai Shono, and an ongoing interest in the mathematical aspects of natural forms.

Lovely choice of materials, and the design achieved a nice tension between components. A beautiful and memorable piece.
