The Cambridgeshire Eco Home
Kelly and Masoko Neville set about building a spectacular oak frame and straw bale house. Kelly is a carpenter by trade and had always dreamed of building an eco friendly home with his own hands. This highly sustainable house, sitting in harmony with nature, would become the base for Kelly and Masoko’s new self-sufficient life.
The unusual house is built around a spiral staircase carved out of an 800-year-old oak tree trunk. Kelly and Masako’s new eco home rises up out of the Fens on stilts to reduce the flood risk. This oak framed house is hexagonal to mirror the shapes of the natural world. The huge complex oak frame was handmade by Kelly and the walls are filled with straw bales, a cheap but efficient insulation material.
