No doubt Kevin McCloud would have mixed feelings about the house, but he’d surely be impressed with what Patrick has achieved in the garden. When asked which part of the house made him most proud, Patrick didn’t need to think twice. “I really love the outside areas. The garden and the pool work really well this time round. It is much more grown up and sophisticated. The garden is nicely zoned and on sunny days it adds so much useable space to the whole house. It is designed to be another room, rather than a bit of outside space tacked on. This is really important for modern gardens, and I think we managed to develop a free-flowing relationship between inside and outside. The garden has different levels, making it interesting and breaking up the space a little bit more, which is central to dividing the space into definable areas.”

This is another aspect of the Big Brother house that Patrick feels people can adapt to fit their own homes, something well worth bearing in mind as we rush headlong towards the summer and barbeque season.

So, on the whole it’s hard to find much fault in the house. It’s stylish, modern, has great outside space and also doubles up as a devilishly deceptive TV studio set.
