“To be honest, I had no real design brief from the guys running the show,” admits Patrick. “The only criterion each time is to make it new and fresh. Most important is to differentiate it from previous BB houses, both stylistically and in terms of what TV can be made in the space.”
One of the challenges the designers face each year is that the studio space is triangular, and as any self-respecting property buff will know, this can make building rather tricky. “This year everything is more linear with lots more right angles, making the job a bit easier!” says Patrick with a wry smile, evidently rather pleased about this turn of events.
It’s easy to see why he’s so happy about it. “We can make bolder architectural statements and so we went for a very modern architectural style, both in terms of the broad shapes and the detailed finishes. It is modern in the purest sense, with lots of pillars creating boundaries and dividing up space, especially in the garden.”
