The architecture of Poundbury harks back to a bygone era and even goes so far as to mimic the bricked-up windows seen on properties affected by the window tax of the 17th and 18th centuries. Whether this is good architecture is up for debate, but there is certainly a concerted effort to foster a sense of community spirit and collectiveness. Pedestrianised walkways traverse the town, gently prodding people into impromptu meetings with fellow residents.
