In another corner of the English countryside, there’s a new development that our rulers are keen on and this time, the emphasis is on old-fashioned values. On the edge of Dorchester, one man with a rather large patch of land had his own bash at creating community. His title is HRH Prince of Wales and his vision is called Poundbury.
In the 1980s Prince Charles launched a war of words on modern architecture and entered the building game himself. Eventually his village will house 5,000 people and is our future monarch’s vision of a perfect community. It’s based on some of the timeless traditions of the UK and, according to advocates, provides a welcome and viable alternative to our current plans for new towns in this country.
