You could easily dismiss these people as NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yard), but perhaps they do have legitimate concerns about the difficulties faced when attempting to create community from scratch. That said, we do need to live somewhere and there’s a historical precedent for building our way out of trouble.
60 years ago there was a housing revolution as war torn cities were rebuilt and new towns created. The town of Harlow, designed for 60,000 residents, is one such example of a completely new town built to house the post-war baby boomers.
