When she decided to move, Joy discovered that the flat, even in its rather poor condition, was worth £650,000. Since renovation, it's been valued at a whopping £875,000.
Joy is lucky that she bought when she did, in an area that has since undergone a massive regeneration. However, "it wasn't an 'investment'," she says. "It was just buying a home; buying somewhere to live".
