Manchester, like Birmingham, Leeds and countless other cities, has become a buy to let boom town, with city centre apartments mushrooming in previously run-down industrial neighbourhoods. Symbolising this rebirth is Beetham Tower, Europe’s tallest residential tower and an icon so huge it can be seen from Liverpool. Local architect Ian Simpson is responsible for the bold design, as well as the ethos of high-rise Utopian living the tower is said to offer.
