The loft in Jen and Ian Beard’s home was a major problem in this project. George’s revolutionary element is a redesign of the staircase, the new stairs now entering where the box room was making a grand entrance to the master bedroom. By reversing the return on the staircase, losing the box room and moving the master bedroom wall across, Jen and Ian have reduced the number of bedrooms but gained a more useable and visually impressive space.
The old lounge was uninspiring. George combined both Jen and Ian’s tastes with contemporary design features that compliment Jen’s classic sofa.
With no children around George went for cream carpets and adult boy’s toys! The old leaky windows in the lounge are also getting an upgrade. George would have loved to put double glazed wood sashes throughout this Victorian property but it wouldn’t match the lower two floors which form another flat - so had to compromise with the much hated UPVC.
