George had to transform Annie and Don’s home in Kew, a large 4 bedroom property but the large size didn’t equate to a large space. Off the kitchen was a separate conservatory dining room, a nice enough area but the space just didn’t work for the family. There was no flow between these rooms which interrupted the space.
The kitchen is the heart of the home so it was imperative to make this work with the living room. To make their communal space flow better George removed the wall between the living room and kitchen and spent £10,000 on the steel beam that supports the weight of the house.
It was extreme to invest almost 20% of the budget in just one area but it meant a complete change to how Annie and Don use all the space on the ground floor.
The living room used to feel a tad awkward and old fashioned. Now it’s bang up to date and crucially links perfectly with the kitchen, which has always been the central point of the home where everyone congregates. This used to be a congested area but removing the wall has made this a space where the whole family can be effortlessly together, something that was the number one priority to them all.
