8. George Shows The Couple His Plans (Image 8 of 17)

Everything’s been stripped out from top to bottom and George has sprayed the whole place white because he wants the couple to get an understanding of the space and the quality of the architecture that this house has... without so much of their stuff in it. George has drafted some plans to show them how they could be using all this new found space. By knocking through to their tired utility area, getting rid of the old chimney breast and rearranging the kitchen units, George's plan is going to transform an awkward narrow space into an efficient kitchen which will become the very heart of their family home.

But that’s not all. With the money saved downstairs, he wants to completely redesign the layout of the first floor, creating a proper master bedroom. And on the top floor, the drafty guest room will be properly insulated and converted into separate rooms for each of the twins, with an adjoining bathroom.

I discovered the Home Show when the series was already underway, and that was it I was hooked, catching up with previous episodes on my son's lap top. We don't, and never will have(unless we win the lottery) the finance to undertake a wonderful transformation of our home, as on the show. But, we can all dream, and that is what The Home Show gives, what could be acheived, if only! Loved the Parsons Green episode, Totally hooked Goerge,Great Programme. Totally hooked George, great programme.

I would like to find a builder who lines chimneys, as on Georges programme, with a light cement mix. I am living within the South Lanarkshire area.

Well I could not belive it, turned on TV, said to my wife, i recognise that bloke, she groaned you always say that, then i realised it was an old mate from school who I had not seen for 21 years. Good to see you Anthony, get in touch. Excellent renovation!! Craig

For those of you who are still interested in the mugs the story has been solved. In last night's episode (the couple with 3 boys who've been living in their house for 19 years), there was a close up mugshot (ahem!) and they're definitely the pantone mugs. The reason they didn't totally look like that is the shelf has a lip on it so you can't see the white bit with the pantone number on it, but's it's definitely them. You can just about make out the white handle and the white bottom. They've also got white interiors. The handles are facing the wall so you can't see the white vertical stripe at the back. Mystery finally solved at last!

As a young architect I enjoy watching shows like the home show and grand designs. While I welcome a show that finally doesn't throw MDF at every available surface, and that gives a real budget to fixing up your home I feel that the home show missed (misses?) some opportunties to educate the viewers further. I am refering to the fact that there was no mention of planning and building control application process, including length of time this could take and in general the length of time it takes to put a project together from inception to completion. Also, there was no mention of whether this weeks project was Tendered or if a random contractor was chosen and no comparison given as to the pro's and con's of both. I mention these things as i think it would make the programme more complete factually and also enable the lay viewer to get a genuine understanding that it is not as simple of drawing some pretty pictures and within a blink of an eye the work is complete and looking fabulous. Keep up the good work though
