But it doesn't end there. The builders discover more hangovers from Lee's cowboy plumbers. The drainage has been installed incorrectly. It’s a simple principle: gravity should have removed the waste from the toilet - but the angle of the pipe - the 'fall' - had been put in the wrong direction, so the waste built up in the pipes. The angle needs to be changed so that gravity can do its job and get everything moving again.
As George had suspected, the old bits of carpet in the annexe weren’t behind the stench; the waste was backing up in the soil pipes as far as the annexe bathroom. Fixing this will be another cost on an already tight budget.
