  2. Having been watching your programme, I feel it would be a great opportunity for us to sort out our very dated 1930's house which we brought 12 years ago and have not managed to refurbish - I have no kitchen (what is there is the original 1930's kitchen, with bare brick walls), bare plastered walls in the bedrooms and hallways, my poor son's ceiling started to fall down about 10 years ago (where the plaster cracked off, and we have never managed to repair it!) We have no where to eat as the dining room is a complete mess and used as a temporary office for my husband, we really do need more space, we only have one toilet which is in the bathroom upstairs - so there is always a fight for that! and only three bedrooms which also need complely refurbishing, my daughter has noone to put all her clothes so they are all over her room!. We brought the house with the intention of completely gutting it, but my husband started up his own business so that left us short of money, then myself and my son were diagnosed with Chrons disease, my son was extremely poorly so we spent a long time in and out of hospital with him. Therefore the house was put on hold, and we are still living in a complete mess. We need more space as I have two teenagers. It would be a dream come true to us if we could have George and the team in to makeover our house, I really hope you can help as we are really desperate to have a nice house! and I know George and the team really are the experts to help.

  5. Hello, still in the bungalow built in the 60's Moved in 21 years ago need an extra bedroom because we changed 3rd bedrom into dinging room Explored the idea of loft conversion but told we would have to have pitch roof, more work than is needed I thought - I was just thinking of a dormer.Tried to sell, but no buyers. Had conservatory built 12 months ago and although this has given an extra room for dining and lounging, what was the converted 3rd bedroom(dining room until the conservatory was built) cannot be used as a bedroom without further constructive work because it is accessed via the front (small hall). So I am still left with a 2 x bedroom bungalow. When family come to stay I have to put them up with a single bedroom/hall with a bed setee. I am serously wishing now I had made more effort to have the LOFT converted. The reconstrucion to the 3rd bedroom/dining room is no problem and we do have enough funds however, I do not want to have any building work and then be left wondering if perhaps I could have made better use of the rooms available. With a keen eye like Goeorge has I am sure this would be a doddle. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely Angela Halsall

My husband and i have been discussing converting our loft and possibly making our kitchen and dining room into one big space. We live in Glasgow and have three small children, we would like our house to flow and fit us better. It would be a dream come true if, we fill your criteria. 12. Been following the programme over here in France - could have done with your help after we'd had the kitchen installed. I'm now dreading going back to the UK next month. I realise our house there needs some updating. What I'd like to do, is to either make a kitchen/diner or a living room diner., and add a utility room onto the side. Would I qualify for help? We're both newly retired.

  15. I own an 2bedroom flat in edinburgh. The flat has two bedrooms two reception rooms and a balcony overlooking a manmade lake and napier university. I have lived here for about 7years, I am single and don't have much clue with respect to interior design. I am currently planning a major refurb where I intend to redesignate rooms, take down walls and really gut the place from top to bottom. This could be a dream project for Georgie boy! I don,t know what the timescale for your shows are and I don't know exactly what you look for in candidates but I have really enjoyed watching the transformations George has made and am very realistic about the budgets required.

  17. We live in a 1890 sandstone house. It is a conversion. We own the botton floor, the basement and the large garden. We have large rooms, but small kitchen and bathroom. One bedroom is on the ground level, 2 are in the basement, which can be quite musty. We need to try and find ways of getting a further bedroom (s), gym, office, larger kitchen and bathroom. Through time we will have the availability of buying the upstair level, so have to work in conjuction with this should the availability come about. It is a beautiful house and to everyone looks very large, but we do not have storage and the rooms can be impractical when you wish to have guests staying overnight/weekends. Its quirky and has enormous potential to be an outstanding house. A precident has been set re extensions in the houses at each end, so planning permission would not be a problem. Hear from you soon. 18. We were looking to 'up-size' and our house went on the market at the end of 2007, but in Feb 2008 our lives were turned upside down when, because of an undetected genetic electrical fault, my husband's heart stopped in his sleep, then aged just 39. He came out of a coma but had suffered damage to the brain having been without a pulse for more than 20 minutes during resuscitation. 18 months on he is making a truly remarkable recovery but is still very much travelling a journey. We have two children under 5 and our (unextended) small 1930's 3 bedroom house feels like it is busting at the seams. We had considered extending before but had decided to move instead as having consulted an architect felt the possibilities would always be limited my the existing room sizes. Now, because of events we cannot afford to move but have a minimum of ?40k, potentially double that dependent on how my husband's return to work programme goes. We are mentally and physically exhausted by the events of the last 18 months and would truly welcome the gift of having someone design and project manage what is an inevitable and very daunting task. Please help. Yours sincerely Nicole

  21. I find it appauling when people hand over their hard earned cash, for the home to be updated, improved, extended etc, and then come home to be told, that because the money ran out, they have no en-suite. I think that for the show and the publicity alone, channel 4, could afford to give the participants an en-suite, instead of leaving them disappointed.

I do however have 10k which i want to use on changing my cellar from a dark damp grotty moldy room still with the big slate table into a room where i can put my rock band kit and also toilet as at the moment visitors have to treck through a bedroom to get to the bathroom. Infact if i had the money i would change the whole layout of the house..... as my neighbours call it its 'the house that jack built' Any ideas

  26. Dear Mr Clarke, (George), Your show and technical abilty is the best on TV related to building design and spacial awareness. Spacial Awareness is the name I have chosen some years ago for my ambition to get into exhibition design. For at exhibitions one recieves a limited area for which I design though not as yet for real the best and most interesting way to market both the company and its product. Waht struck me watching and reading about your show and yourself is that perhpas t5here is an addition to yourself and to your show regarding devloping new and more up to date designs of our failing pubs and pub / restaurants. Its time to put to history the old English pub architecture, its worn out, dark, dingy and full of wasteful space. I strongly believe that the brewries or privately owned public houses would jump at the chance to rejunvinate their established. I have spoken to one or two and suggested that they could increase the table covers nad social meeting sections by re-designing the space they have, allowing more light and fereedom from our old world pubs. We could still have some old world effects but we need to move towards the European type of esteablishments. If you think you may be interested perhaps you and the ITV and I'd me also to discuss this more. I am retired Chartere3d Mechanical Engineer by profession but with a great liking and interest in Architecture. Well her's hoping, best regards J R Bleton

  35. Dear George We are planning to re-furbish our living room in the next few months, and are considering continuing the mid-grey ceramic tiles currently laid in the kitchen and hallway into the living and dining room, which are connected. This is a large space, approx 50sq metres, and we wonder if you could give us your thoughts? We love the Scandinavian look from the 50s and 60s, we have an Eero Saarinen Tulip dining suite and two Charles Eames chairs with ottoman, as well as a Robin Day seating unit with white melamine coffee table. For the main sitting area, we are looking at corner seating units with metal legs. Would you recommend some soft base affixed to the furniture to ease movement, as the Tulip dining chairs are quite heavy, and need to be easily moved, and we don’t want to clutter the place up by placing rugs under the chairs? Also I think we saw some striped roman blinds in your last show (30th Aug) with matching cushions, but didn't record the show so can't be sure. Can you let us know where we can re-visit this show? 39. What I love about this show is that it is properly design and construction - no cheap quick fix that when the team leave will probably fall off the wall. And it highlights how much it really costs to renovate a home.. Rather than quickly magnolia the walls and flog it on to the next sucker! Its bringing back the idea of having a home for life. Love it.

  42. Dear Home Show, I would really like to apply to The Home show for the next series. I own a 3 bedroom mid terrace house located in Neasden London NW2. I have owned the property for a little over 10 years. The situation I have is that due to the current economic climate I'm unable to move. When I first bought the house it was an investment and I never really thought I would live in it. I rented it out for a period of time and after splitting up with my boyfriend moved home to my parents for a year. I then decided I needed my own space so did some work on the house before finally moving in. I have been living in the property for a little over 5 years and really need Georges help to make this house my home and somewhere I'm happy to live so I can host dinner parties and bbq's. I really need his help with my bedroom as I have not done anything with this room and really need hep and advice on fitting it out along with the two bedrooms. If I had the opportunity to renovate my property I think it would be amazing and seeing some of the projects that George has taken on I just know he is the person for me - I have been so moved with some of the work he has done and believe with his architectural design and experience that he could really help turn my house in to a home I'm proud of and this has been my dream for so long. I travel so much with my job and never have the time to focus on my home it would be great to be on your show and have Georges help ... In terms of budget I am open to spending upwards of $20,000 to make this happen and hope you will consider my application. Best regards, Katrina Neylon

  53. I was wondering if you could tell me when the next series of the home show will be starting. We have just remortgaged to extend, but we would like some advice or to apply for the show and wondered how long it would take. We have been considering this project for a couple of years now,but decided to go ahead, but we have been let down with so many people,we are just stuck in a situation on how and what to do.

  54. Hi George, my husband and I live in a very run down, old fashioned ex council house and we don't have savings as everything we earn goes on paying our bills and day to day costs. We would love to have our house done up like the ones on your show, but could never afford your 40k budget. Can you do a competition or something where you could get the opportunity to win to have your house done for free?

  57. Hi, I've applied for you show; well, filed for future interest. In the meantime, we are looking and talking to Architects. Question, is it better to get an architect that has dealt with previous builders. And how much should I approximately be paying for a descent architect without feeling I'm being ripped off? 59. We basically allowed our 2 kids to entertain their friends and use our house to its full capacity. We have had great childrens parties indoors and over the last 10 years the house is tired and beaten and needs a good face-lift. The kids are no longer roller blading in our living room or ripping off the wall paper so I would love to get the house back in the state we found it 10 years ago.Your input would be great.

  61. Dear George, Since moving in together in 1994, my husband and I have two girls aged 7 and 11. The house previously belonged to my Granparents. We have always toyed with the idea of moving but have always decided to stay put, as we feel that the house could be so right for us. We have both worked full time and the house has always taken a back seat, and needs some love. I gave up my job 2 years ago to look after the children, and being at home has given me plenty of insiration for my home. I have now been offered a job in a local school, and feel that I now have the perfect life balance and would like to complete the dream by making our house work as a home. You are the only one I would trust to complete this dream, please can you help.

  62. We have an 1898 house, the last people owned it for 45yrs and had it for 3 family generations, the owner was a self confessed diy expert (not). Before that it had been turned into a maisonette. There is evidence of upside down wallpaper, odd pipes going nowhere and a mass of space strangely arranged due to the constant re-organisation of the house. We have lived here for 7yrs and are still trying to decide how to use the house effectively for our 2 adult, 2 children house. The house is a semi, with one small bathroom upstairs which doesn't fit in with the massive size of the 4 bedrooms. I believe the potential for this house is enormous it's just that we aren't getting very far with deciding about keeping or changing the wonderful original features for more modern items or some compromise in-between. On a personal level this is the second house we have lived in since getting married in 1992 and as yet I have never had a kitchen yet in a style of my own, i'm desparate now. Best regards Debra x

  64. Only people who have lots of cash seem to be chosen for this programme :( We are a family of 6, mum and dad working hard to provide for our 4 wee ones. Just about making ends meet in a house we've desperately outgrown, but with potential to meet our demands. Just watching at the moment with my 6 yr old son who gave a big sigh and said, "We really need George, don't we mum." I'll let you know if I win the lottery. ;) The Taylor Family, Scotland

  65. Hi George - great show ! We are a growing family of 5 living in a large 4 bedroom detached house just outside Bournemouth. The upstairs main bedroom is crying out for an ensuite and could do with being extended. We could also do with your help to remodel the bottom of the house to improve the flow of the rooms. The 60's boiler will certainly need to go and my Wife would love a large kitchen diner for entertaining and chilling out - we are guessing that the downstairs would need to be extended into our large rear garden and some of the rooms could be knocked through but have a very open mind about what could be done, are you able to help ..............??

Help !I have a 3 bed detatched bungalow situated on a 3/4 acre plot in Norfolk where I live with my 22 year old son. the property was built in early 70's and although the overall footprint of the property is adequate I have always thought the internal division of space is wrong although I dont know where to start. large kitchen -large living room- large main bedroom. medium sized 2nd bedroom and tiny 3rd. tiny bathroom, and double garages/utility room immediatly to rear blocking view of garden. could possibly re arrange internal walls or convert garages into annex for son. I recently applied for planning to demolish and develop the site but that was refused. any ideas would be great

I live in a 1950`s semi detatched ex counci house with my partner of 20 years Paul,we just have our youngest son at home now who is 18.I feel that our house has done its job of taking the daily beatings of two boys and numerous amounts of sports equipment dumped in the dining room. We would dearly love to make our house into a cozy comfy paradise that is ours to enjoy. we have a large back garden and would love to extend and open up the kitchen space. we have been to all the shows this year and find ourselves more confused than before. HELP!! We dont know where to start.

  68. Hi George, My husband, 3 children (4,3 and 1) live in a 2 bedroom terrace. Obviously we need more space and our house has been on the market for a while, although we've not had one viewing!! My husband currently also works from home, although he'll be renting an office soon, which means I'll have another downstairs room to play with! yippee! Still, I want more babies, but can't until my current youngest moves out of our bedroom! Fancy doing something with our completely unused loft, yard space or 80 foot garden? Would LOVE to hear from you!!

  69. Hi George, love the show, its great to see how you can transform the houses in the show. If you are ever looking to transform a large bungalow on a budget of 30k in a New forest setting, we would love to hear from you. What a challange, this could be the way forward with middle aged couples who are stuck on the property ladder with a tighter budget. We love our home, dont want to move but desperate to bring it out of the seventy's and into 2010. We moved to Dorset two and a half years ago from London to achieve a better quality of Life, still commuting into London which has limited the amount of time we can spend on the house. Please keep us in mind. Sandra and Andy Magson.

  74. George I need help. I'm a single parent grandmother working full time and often have to choose between work children grandchildren DIY gardening the extended family committments - my health hasn't been great but I shouldn't complain. I live in a 1930's house and decided to start off slow (as I could afford it) I had to have gas connected to the property and I installed central heating - which was a bit of a nightmare, the company I choose came highly recommended and really did bodge the job - I decorated my living room then had a leak in the bedroom above:-( I've managed to install double glazing - I just seem to make such a mountain out of everything I touch - the next job is a two storey extension - I've planning permission, architects drawings, approval I'm just so scared of taking that next step. I've a 4x8 galley kitchen with an old fashioned larder - I just cannot move forward with any improvements until this job is complete as it's such an integral part and would have an affect on the rest of the house. I need the help and confidence to bring this horrible house to life. Please help

  75. Hello, We would like to take this chance to let you consider our house to be chosen in your following series. Our layout of her house is appaling it makes the rooms small and cramped and little storage place to put all of our treasured items! Our hallway is immeditely greeted with our staircase, behind it is a small kitchen which only allows ONE person at one time. But as you walk up the stairs there is a very narrow landing. Clinging on to the landing is a small toliet which is detached from the small to medium bathroom. Additionaly is a medium size study but as my Husbands business is expanding he would like more space for his work. Also there is two good sized double bedrooms. We are hoping to have a dog soon for our daughter but the layout of the house is delaying us so we would appreciate if you could help us. Also we can't have any guest around or host anythink at our house which is causing a real problem. Thankyou for having a detail look at our entry we look forward hearing from you soon. Kind regards The Sehint family.

  79. Hi George and team, We love your show and we are looking forward to watching our house challeging you in the next series. What do you think? We hope one of the chosen properties will be our house. Years since moving in our design and diy skills and knowledge have been put to good use but very little difference made, very depressive experience. Our brick and mortar nightmare house doubles as a home /charity and business offices. This house challenges everyone including the best diy happy jo bloggs. So, we would be happy with your healing touch so we can have a home with a kitchen and revamped office, a ground floor toilet, porche and new driveway with high gates, garden and security. If you are up to the challenge and more please do something about my hallway for a near enough grand entry!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even the tiles in my bathroom where the plumbers choice(thank goodness he had a better taste than the awful peach tiles I chose) I would love it if George would come along and turn this house into a home that suits me. 90. Hi George, I have a really good friend who lives in an old school house in Scotland - in a lovely courtyard. She has had this property for a number of years and I wondered whether you fancied your first Scottish challenge? The property has lovely high ceilings and has natural charm but my friend is struggling to make it something that she would be happy with. She has many ideas! A group of us were invited to discuss how to go about it (even one architect) but I feel guilty as my poor friend is probably more confused about what to do than she was before - explaining why I writing to you. If you are curious about this potential project, I can organise to send you some photos. Fingers crossed that you can help my friend. When I mentioned you, she thought you could be the answer. Recently, she had the house mainted a neutral beige colour but she is still unhappy with the renovations. Looking forward to your tips - maybe first show in Scotland?

  92. We had a disaster over the weekend: our flat roof has leaked causing the ceiling in our loft to fall through. The loft was partly converted into 3 rooms and boarded with electricity etc by the previous owners but is unfinished. Is it worth thinking about getting the conversion finished at the same time as the roof fixed and how soon is it realistic to hope that plans and planning permission can be sorted? Also any suggestions of good architects or builders in the Southampton area would be much appreciated.

  97. Hubby and me live in Suffolk in a beautiful 16th Century thatched house with our two boys (10 11). When we bought the house 6 years ago it looked more like a pub inside with dark beams and bright red carpets. We have, over the years, tried to bring the house up-to-date but however hard we try, cant seem to make it a sylish home. The main problem is the proporations and our use of the rooms, especially downstairs and especially where there is an extension at the far end of the house to the living rooom. The extension is south facing and so gets most of the sun, but we cant seem to make it work as part of the living room despite a desparate need for a light, bright space in what can be a dark house. Upstairs has also been dissappointing. In my mind I can imagine how beautiful it could be, but somehow we cant seem to realise its potential. For example, we recently redecorated our 11yr old's bedroom, hoping to give him a more grown up space. The room has a boarded up fire place that I would love to open but we couldnt come up with a sensible layout for his furniture, so the fireplace remains behind a cupboard in a still very unispiring room despite all the architectural features. The main house is listed but all the rooms (except the third bedroom [of 3]) are large so it has loads of potential for internal change. Eg we have a kitchen and dining room, but the kitchen is more than large enough to be a fantastic kitchen diner(with open fire place if the boiler could be relocated??). Plus there's the extension.... In short, we need George's architectural inspiration to make the most of the space and turn this old house into a beautiful, light, comfortable home. What we're lacking, so our wish list: -cosy rooms with open fires -open bright area to enjoy the sunshine and countryside. -somewhere for guests to sleep -downstairs loo Hope you pick us, otherwise we could end up moving; we really need help.

Have watched most of the property shows on 4 over the years and it’s great to at last find one that’s realistic and isn’t either totally aspirational (‘Grand Designs’) or a quick fix with an eye to making profit. I’m a single, 50something guy who, after 35 years of living in flats and disciplined saving, finally achieved my dream of buying a house 10 months ago. It’s a 1930 3 bed semi with a long garden on the London/Surrey border and I love it. But now comes the difficult part of turning it from my house into my home for the years to come, somewhere to come home to that makes all the years of hard work and hard saving worthwhile. It’s structurally sound but doesn’t flow as an ideal living space; badly proportioned and, as I discovered after living here for a while, the victim of cheap improvements by slapdash builders. The use of space and the proportion of the rooms is frustrating; on the ground floor, the entrance hall and living room are ridiculously small with the further inconvenience of electric meters sited in one corner(which I understand is not uncommon for houses of this period) but the location of the staircase between these and the kitchen/diner/lean-to conservatory makes opening up or re-proportioning the space problematic ; there isn’t room to swing a cat in the first floor bathroom (so either turn it into a wet room of sorts or knock though and lose the study/home office perhaps?); a recent loft conversion giving a bedroom and a decent sized en-suite has been badly designed and criminally wastes space (designed, I suspect, for the benefit of the builder and an apathetic client only interested in the basics to increase value). The house is fairly energy inefficient; the lean-to conservatory, although double glazed, loses heat making the kitchen/ diner and in turn the whole house a touch chilly in the winter (maybe that’s the price you have to pay for a view of the garden). I moved with little or no furniture and the place is virtually untouched from the previous owner (even the net curtains in the windows!). I decided to live in the place for a few months as it was to get clearer ideas of refurbishment or redesign. However, financing this with my life savings I can only do this once and the possibility of getting it wrong is rather paralysing, particularly as I don’t trust my own sense of design. I poured over countless catalogues and design magazines, doing rough costings until my head spun with confusion and the weight of making the wrong decision. My personal taste is for the clean lines of contemporary modern, but comfortable not clinical. I appreciate that most property series are naturally predisposed towards families and married couples but I hope that there is also an appeal for the situation of single occupancy which although is common is often overlooked. In essence I wish for a well designed house which is a constant delight to the eye and a joy to live in. I reckon George is the man to sort me out! Thank you for your time and consideration. 102. Help We have a great location over looking lakes and lots of nature - we are not in country but the house is just a really poor design and I cant cope with it!! Have two small children who adore living there but I am struggling benig a mum and housewife - and working. The hall and stairs and lounge are all open - so it is draft and continually messy - We have a tumble drier in garage whihc is attached. The garage is full of junk and it is really a fight to get in - and washing everywhere. The kitchen is tiny and just off the lounge - so food just escapes into large open plan room come hall thing passageway that is our living area. But we love the location and all the nature that goes with it. House is poorly designed and there is not a lot of room for friends or family gathering and we want it to feel more homely more organised and bigger - please please help -

  104. Hi - I live in a 1970s detached 3 bed bungalow. I would like advice on changing the layout as we have a huge garden which is overlooked by the bedrooms and totally wasted. The living area is on the other side of the bungalow and looks out onto other houses and the kitchen is overlooked by houses/apartments. Ideally I would like the sleeping area to become the living/kitchen dining area and the living/kitchen dining area to become the sleeping area. We have an open plan living room which is 28foot by 15 foot, no dining room, so we use part of the living room as a dining area and the kitchen is probably about 15 x 13 ft. Would love to know if it is a feasible idea. We live in Lisburn, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland. - Thank you. Liz Murphy

  106. I would welcome advice on replanning our home around my husband who had an accident last year which left him paralysed from the neck down. The "normal" disabled adaptions such as grab rails etc do not apply to him and I get fed up with the limited scope of people's imagination when the word disabled is mentioned. We are a youngish family with two children and love modern, traditional and up and coming interiors and furnishings. We know an extension is necessary to accomodate my husbands wet room etc but we would appreciate some guidance on layout and with-it ideas before wasting any money and feeling obliged into doing the "norm". We love our home very much and spent alot of time money and effort before my husbands' accident on renovating it, unfortunately it will all have to change to provide the extra wheelchair space etc he needs to get about from room to room.I feel a bit of direction from someone with vision is vital to change our home and make our lives so much easier it will give us the boost we need after a pretty traunatic 18 months. Hope you can help in any way at all, many thanks.

  107. I find it hard to put into words how much i need your help, the day i moved onto my 3 bedroom 1900's cottage style house, i knew i had done the most expensive mistake of my life, a small extention an added bedroom and 5 years later and it hasnt got any better. We are a family of 4 two kids aged 5 and 2 the house is of a resonable size, the upstairs floor feels much bigger than down stairs area, the 4 rooms downstairs are quite small and there is hardly any light as the windows are all small, there is no hallway or storage and we dont have room for any extentions it would be working with the house as it is, which would be a real challenge. I want to feel happy to come home to house i love and to bring my children up in house with good memories and at the moment i dont have any ideas how i can achieve this without moving! Please help!

  108. We have a 4 bed detached house in Bolton lancs, we have 2 children of our own (boy & girl) & we have 2 foster children (brother & sister), but bedrooms are 2 double (ours & teenage son) & 2 single(daughter 1, foster children share other).Want to extend over garage & change roof to make room for loft conversion, roof currently pyramid style, would need to build gables & re-roof, then redesign all upstairs rooms probably relocating stairsalso make rear of garage into utility to enlarge kitchen into existing utility.Have had builders around but have had no reply exept that its a big job and we would struggle getting planning permission although there are 2 three storey propertys on the rear of our street.Don't know where to start for planning permission or anything, I would move but wife & kids love it here. Please get in touch if think that you could help Thanks Carl,Deb & Family(extended)

We live in a poor quality, single storey ex miners cottage using expensive LPG as our main source of heating and water. We have planning permission to remove the roof and install a new one, incorporating as much green energy as possible. (we have a good budget)Interested in the challenge? Kind regards

  112. Really enjoy the programme. It would be nice to be considered for taking part in the new series, but I fear we are a lost cause! I live in an extended 3-bed semi detached house in the suburbs of London. There are four adults who have lived there for just over 30 years. One family member is a chronic hoarder, two are deeply into 'crafts', three into 'collections' and one who likes kitchen and catering things! We thought of challenging George to come and help us but to be honest, he couldn't!! What I would like to comment on is his tip for finding workmen. If you have no one who can reccommend anyone to you, how on earth do you find a decent builder?

  113. Hello I have just left you my name and number as we would love to appear on your show. We live in a detached 3 bedroom house in a conservation area in London. Against the odds we have managed to get planning permission for a side and back extension due to the size of a garden (we are on a double plot), and we need to accommodate our quickly expanding family (we have been married 3 years and have 2 kids already..) I would love an eat-in kitchen, utility room, 4th bedroom and lots of storage (we have none) Please get back to us if you think we are suitable candidates. Many thanks. Laura.

  114. Hi we would love for George and the team to help redesign our house to make it a more functional and modern home! We live in a 1930's 3 bed semi detached house, although more like 2bedrooms and a box! We have two boys and currently trying for another member of our family! The toilet is down stairs, we do have room to have a little ensuite bathroom in our bedroom and this would be great to free up the bathroom rush in the mornings! We would love to have an extra bedroom by converting the loft, although it isn't great space so we would have to have a dorma and have stairs entering the loft from one of the bedrooms. Our kitchen is also to small, we have a small off shot from the kitchen which we currently use as our laundry room! it is the first thing that welcomes you into the back of our house...not very appealing. We are thinking of having the wall knocked through and supported to open the space up and also add some bi folding doors/patio doors to the back making the back of the house more appealing! A new kitchen layout to make it more family functional is what we are looking for, instead of having to squeeze between the fridge and the table to sit and eat!!. I do have some ideas but do not know how or where to start. We would greatly benifit from your team helping us achieve our dream home as we couldn't afford to move, nor would we want too really as we live in a fantastic area! Please consider us for your programme we would be eternally greatful.

  116. Just watched the latest show and was really touched by the sensitive way in George and the team worked to create a dream home for the family. We moved into our 3 bedroomed home 17years ago and have planned to move a number of times. Particularly as our children began to grow (now age 10 and 15 and in need of more space!!) but we could never agree on the right time or place. We have beautiful country views from the rear of the house and they have been difficult to match. As the market is so stagnant and we desperately need more space we are considering building an extension but have concerns about who could match our expectations. We need an extra bathroom, utility room and extra bedroom and are prepared to pay up to 50k to achiee this dream. We would be totally happy to leave it all to George and co and would be thrilled if you would consider us. We are a lively close family who would greatly benefit from and enjoy the changes. Thanks Annette

  119. We are a young family with two little girls (3.5 and e 1.5) living in a semi-detached, 3 bedroom, victorian house in Ware, Hertfordshire. My husband and I are really enjoying the current series of The Home Show and would be very interested in appearing in the next. Our main problem is lack of storage, but we also suffer from having only one (downstairs) bathroom which leads off the tiny kitchen. Like many Victorian properties our house has been extended to the rear by previous owners, which means that we have quite a lot of reception space, but each room leads off the previous one and the front door opens directly into the living room, which sometimes makes the downstairs feel like one big corridor! Whilst are house is adequate for our needs now, as the girls get bigger it will feel increasingly cramped, however the current economic downturn means that we are unlikely to be able to move for upwards of 5 years. There are several possible opportunities to extend our house - there is a redundant side-return directly outide the kitchen, a currently unconverted attic space, and the possibility of building ontop of the one storey extension in which the bathroom is housed. I think we could really benefit from the expertise of George Clarke and his team and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss the potential renovation project further.

We have lived in our home for 8 years but the interior is a mix of his and hers from before we got married and is very very beige!! Some space is underused other areas are misused - kids bikes and scooters in the dining room!? We have a budget of £80k but lack vision. We would like to fall in love with our home again. 123. Hi, I currently live in a semi detached three bedroomed property(approx 6 years old, within Dundee)with my husband and our three children, our fourth is due within the next 2 weeks! Until last December there were only four of us but soon there will be six and there is just no room. I feel so guilty as the children have tiny single bedrooms which they have to share and there is no space for them to play. We had thought of moving but with the property market in turmoil I dont think I could stand the strain of having to keep the house in show room condition! Besides the two older girls are settled at school and we have excellent neighbours and family close by which is very important especially with a fourth child on the way!We dont have plans or planning consent but we have spoken to the local planners and they dont have any issues with a side double extension. However the space is limited (8m by 2.5m) and the stairs are in the wrong place meaning that the entire upstairs will need rejigged. We would therefore love the expertise of George in order to maximise the potential and hopefully add some modern funky features. We hope to give the children larger bedrooms and also a playroom with the downstairs space. Your help would be greatly appreciated regards Karen Downes

  124. We are in the process of taking the builder to court. Two years we have lived in a supposedly brand new barn conversion that has been badly designed internally and with very poor standards of workmanship. Our living room is boarded up as the floor was never screeded at all, the builders covered it up with a carpet, even when we allowed the builders to correct the floor it went wrong they had to dig it up, that was the last straw so we entered in to litigation the solicitor advised not to all them to undertake any more work. We have lived with open cavities that were unfinished and exposed to the elements, it has been very draughty and cold and dusty, the internal woodwork has been shoddily fitted and not even sanded or painted. Once we receive payment from the builders whom we will not allow to take on the work we will be putting the work out to tender so when I saw the home show I thought our house would make and interesting story and project. We are at the stage where all the expert witness reports have been done and we will be ready to issue court proceeding to the builder. We will be moving out as there will be allot of internal and external alterations to be remedied. It has been two years of hell living in our supposedly dream home in Hereford. We trusted the builders they lied as has been proved as during the past two years we discovered one fault after another even to the extent of dangerous and bad workmanship. As you can imagine it has broken me and my family hearts living with it for two years especailly as I have internally designed, decorated and designed the gardens on several houses that were done to a very high standard putting alot of energy and tender loving care in to those houses so that other people could enjoy them. All we ever wanted was a comfortable clean sanctuary our home. We have had to pay out lots of money to hopefully get what we are owed we couldn't even sell the house as it hasn't even been passed by building control and until the house is put right no one would buy it anyway. As it stands we have been deprived of what we paid for.

  126. Hi, myself and my husband Campbell live in East Kilbride, Glasgow. We plan to add a two storey extension onto our 2 bed end terrace house in spring next year. I am 41 and Campbell in 56. We currently own our house outright, it is approx 9 years old. I originally bought the house for myself. It is not large, therefore when we got married in 2005 and Campbell moved in, we have struggled for space and storage. I added a conservatory a few years ago, which we love to bits, but it stole natural light from the living room. By knocking through the external wall into the new room created by the extension, this gives me the opportunity to create natural light. Placing the windows in the correct position is paramount. We have plans drawn up and are about to submit to the planner in order to gain consent. They have already given us an indication it would be approved, so hopefully the plans will go through smoothly. We have budgeted £80K to cover the cost of the build and the interior decor. We will have to apply for a mortgage and contribute a proportion of our own savings. We love this house and the loction. We are surrounded by trees and it is really lovely in the summer. This is a one off project therefore I would really love it if George could assist us to ensure we we making best use of the space we are creating, and indeed the existing space, along with help on the interior design. I have a contemporary mediteranian idea in my head. We would be knocking through external walls into the extended area. The extension would create a dining room, kitchen, and upstair extra bedroom and larger bathroom. I want to create lots of natural light into the housen and create the right kind of ambience. Please, please can you help, this is a dream I have had for years, and am really anxious to make it our perfect home. We would love to help contribute to your new series, and therefore look forward to hearing from you very soon. I am excited just thinking about it! Yours sincerly Karen

We are very excited that we have just recieved planning permission on our two bedroom 1950 very dated farm workers bungalow in West Sussex. We are bursting out of this house and desprate to do the extension so we can start living again as lives have been on hold trying to get by in a small space. permission is for another floor creating 3 new bedrooms one with en suite. We have two girls aged 3 and 6 years old who would love seperate bedrooms. We have been waiting two years for the permission and would love your help to make this house our home. 128. We have a modern 4 bed detatched, 30 year old house. Our children have now 'flown the nest' (but may come back!). The kitchen is as old as the house and due a complete make-over. We are now able to afford to do it but don't know where to start. The previous owner had part of the garage converted into an extra room between the kitchen and the utility but although we have since had a central heating radiater installed it is cold because the the wall is not insulated between it and the garage. There isn't enough light in the room either. We think opening it up to make it part of the kitchen and perhaps the utility as well might be a good idea to make a good sized dining kitchen opening out into the back garden. We do use the room as a computer room at the moment (with a fan heater in the winter) but we could easily use a computer in a large dining kitchen and don't need a room just for that. We'd love someone experienced to give us some advice and ideas rather than a kitchen salesman just selling a kitchen. I'm not very good at making decisions and my husband always seems to have something else to do - I have a big birthday coming up (50) and we are spending quite a lot of money on a party. My husband says not to worry we'll still be able to do the kitchen but we've been talking about it for years now and haven't done anything so after watching The Home Show I thought I'd go into my small, cold 'computer room' and look at your site!

  129. My husband left a comment last week, but I thought I'd add to it! We have lived in our house for 12 years since getting married. Since having kids, 2 girls who are now 7 & 8, the space just doesn't work very well for the family. When we moved in, we had to update the house, but with a very limited budget. We have just recently got planning permission to extend the house significantly and have a vision of making the house into a home that we can live in for the foreseeable future. We would really appreciate your help and expertise. We love your show and each week, we sit there saying 'that would be such a dream come true, if that happened to us'. 131. We have just bought a 3 bedroom detached property in Dorchester and intend to renovate the property with a budget of 40K. We bought the house for its location and plot size, it was too expense to knock it down and start again... however it was build in 1961 and it is not to our taste. Please could you help us bring this property into the 21 century. This is our first home together. I moved down from the midlands with my son last December to make a new life with my partner. The housing market completely changed our plans on how we moved forward to start our life together. It has not been easy buying a house in a falling market with two properties to sell, especially with one in the Midlands and one in Weymouth, whilst buying in an expensive town. It has taken us most of the year to sell and finally find a house to buy. Location and plot being our priority, however, we need four beds and at least two bathrooms and a study. Dorchester is an up and coming county town where Prince Charles has given land to the town to build "houses for people from all walks of life". Also a big new development on the other side of the town that use to be an old brewery is also bring in businesses and new housing for people wanting to move and settle into the area. We would really appreciate your time in considering us for the programme

  133. Ive been so inspired by your programme the last few weeks its prompted me to write to you!! I just hope I'm not too late. We live in a big Edwardian house with seven bedrooms that has been neglected over the last forty years by the previous owner, who was 94. To cut a long story short we have lived here for three years and have carried out some work. We applied for double story extension and were refused and settled for first floor ext. This causes a real problem on the first floor where the rooms are all strange shapes. 134. I like your home show very much and I would like some advice to renovate my house with 6 bed rooms. I need to convert the house into 2 apartments, adding a garden room etc.. This is a large Edwardian house with 6 bedrooms. I need to contact George for proffessional advice. Thank you Kanchana

  135. I have a 3 bedroom chalet bungalow, I am married with 2 daughters 8 and 7. We are running out of space and the house is ugly. I have planning permission to extend double storey extension out the front and one storey extension at the back. My budget would be approx £85000, the whole extension is designed so we never have to move and have a perfect modern living space. Can you help. Many Thanks James Nicholls, Herts.

  136. The email address given to contact if people are interested in applying to be on show does not work. The phone number given also suggests it is not taking messages. I would be grateful if you could provide an email address to contact. Thanks Chandan Mahal
