Five years ago Derek and Fiona embarked on what they hoped would be an exciting new life on the other side of the world in New Zealand, but it wasn't meant to be. They were homesick for family and the wilds of their native Scotland. So they sold up Down Under and returned home.
Now they have high hopes for a rural dream... twice! They want a main home in the picturesque Perthshire countryside with four bedrooms, lots of living space and period features. Critically, after living amongst the hustle and bustle of a busy city they want their new home to situated in a secluded, serene and silent spot. The budget? A hefty £500,000.
Also on the shopping list is a bolthole by the sea on Scotland's unspoilt west coast of Argyll and Bute. This weekend retreat should cost no more than £250,000. For that price, it needs to be within a three hour drive of their main home, with two or more bedrooms a waterside setting.
