Property Ladder follows Robert, who's bought a listed cottage in Haslingfield, and Diane, who's converting part of a stately home in Market Drayton. But what qualities do you need to manage a good redevelopment- and have these two amateur developers got what it takes?

Robert Bickerdike. Haslingfield. Property Ladder

Robert Bickerdike is hoping to make a £77,000 profit in four months. Unfortunately, his listed cottage in Haslingfield in Cambridgeshire is one of the worst buys Sarah's ever seen and she's convinced that his plans for it are way off mark.

Crucial to Robert's success is getting the listed buildings department on side, which can take time; unfortunately, patience isn't something Robert's good at. He needs to follow Sarah's advice to the letter if he's to pull this development back from the brink...but will he?

Diane Brown. Market Drayton. Property Ladder

Meanwhile, in Market Drayton in Shropshire, Diane Brown lives on the ground floor of an old stately home. She's planning to carve it up into two, sell off one half and live in the other. The problem is, an unsympathetic 1970s conversion means it couldn't look less like an imposing country pile if it tried.

Sarah's got a radical plan that should guarantee Diane's future in the family home, but will Diane listen?

  1. I am concerned with all the 'improvements' that are encouraged for 'modern living' that the internal architectural integrity of period homes are being destroyed. This is particularly painful to watch when walls are knocked down and the internal character of individual rooms are converted to 21st century style rooms.
