After years of being shoved from pillar to post, army wife Charley Tomlinson is finally getting her way. Her husband, Colonel Patrick Tomlinson has agreed to make a return to civilian life by taking a job in the city of London.
For the past three years, Patrick, Charley and their four children have been entrenched at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. But its just one of a long list - they've lived in eleven places in eleven years.
Patrick and Charley have a budget of £450,000. Their main drive for the move is to be within a 30 mile radius of Brighton, to be near their daughters’ school. And Patrick needs a reasonable commute to London. But with four kids to house, your average first time buyer property isn’t going to cut the mustard.
After viewing - and rejecting - the first three properties, the housing market provided an opportunity for Patrick and Charley: a listed Georgian house in the pretty village of Albourne. Phil and Kirstie had originally dismissed it because it was way over budget and needed a lot of work, but an overnight reduction in price gave it potential.

Although still over budget, at just shy of £480,000, Patrick and Charley were still keen to view it. Until recently it was a children’s nursery, and although spacious, it needed a lot of work. But the couple liked the house immediately and both could see the potential.
An offer of £465,000 was accepted, subject to survey; but in the end, the couple felt that the house would need just too much work to make it habitable.
The family is now living in rented accommodation until they can find their dream home - but, armed with the research and experience their search with Kirstie has given them, they're optimistic about the future.
