We’re in Oxfordshire this week, and it’s a case of whatever the size of your wallet, you need to keep your wits about you. For a couple of top guns like para-major Chris and RAF pilot Nikki, Phil will need to use military precision to find them the home they're looking for.
With average house prices 34 per cent higher than the rest of the country, Oxfordshire is one expensive county. Chris and Nikki have decided that their next mission should be a full-on renovation project. They’re only stationed here in Oxfordshire for another two years, so they plan a military-style assault on the housing market, with their sights set on a big financial return.
Nikki and Chris have got a maximum budget of £490,000, and that’s to include all renovation costs. The property should be in west Oxfordshire, convenient for airfield and army base. There needs to be a minimum of three bedrooms, and the ability to add value is a must.

After viewing several shells of buildings, each requiring varying degrees of work, Chris and Nikki settle on a pair of cottages in Alvescot, on at £400,000. A local architect reckons a complete renovation would cost in the region of £100,000.
Phil puts in a bid of £390,000, but on properties like this it's inevitable that professional property development firms will be sniffing around. Consequently, the initial bid is rejected. Keen to push a deal through, Chris and Nikki up their offer to the full £400,000 asking price. It's accepted, and the two cottages are immediately withdrawn from the market.
Unfortunately, two months later Chris and Nikki decide that it's not for them, and pull out of the deal.
