Martine Wright and Nick met in 2003 and are getting married in just two months.

Nick and Martine

But for Martine, walking up the aisle to marry Nick will be special in more ways than one.

On the 7th of July, 2005, terrorists co-ordinated an attack on London's public transport system - and Martine was sitting just three feet away from one of the bombers on the Circle Line. The explosion meant that she lost both of her legs, just above the knee.

Martine spent about a year in hospital learning to walk on prosthetic legs, but when she came back, she came back fighting - and now nothing stands in her way.

The next thing this determined woman is going to set her sights on is finding a family home for her and Nick to start married life in. They're looking for somewhere to spend the next 10 or 20 years raising a family.

Budget and Requirements

Kirstie and Phil have got £500,000 for the hopes and dreams of these nearly newlyweds. Martine needs a practical pad with potential to grow – and that means a bungalow with a big garden. However Nick wants to be at one with nature – for him, it’s about a rural setting and a sense of community. Plus, space in the garden to house his photography business.

What Happened Next?

The wilds of Wigginton impressed Nick and the small two bed cottage that they saw most recently was his first choice. But for Martine, the easily accessible Tring property took top spot with its large flat garden and open plan living space.

After a night to think about it, they've made a decision. They want to make an offer on the Tring house. If Martine and Nick secure this property at its asking price they would still have £125,000 left in their budget. A local architect confirms that it has potential and that they'd be looking at around £50,000 and a year's work to build the bungalow of their dreams.

Martine and Nick hear their offer has been accepted

But Phil's still stinging from Kirstie's sudden success - he wants to cut Martine and Nick an even better deal. So, after some negotiation, they secure the property for £350,000 - that's £25,000 under the asking price.

Five months later, Martine and Nick have moved into their first family home, but that’s not their only cause for celebration. Surrounded by close friends and family, Martine finally achieved her goal, by walking down the aisle to marry Nick.
