This week, Kirstie and Phil are in Aberdeen to help two couples of a similar age and with similar budgets, in a city where the thriving oil business is fueling a red hot property market.

First up are newlyweds Mike and Emma. He’s a design engineer in the oil business and she works for the council, as well as being an artist. They’ve outgrown their one bedroom city centre flat, but they’re still a long way off outgrowing city centre life.
They haven't viewed any properties so far, partly because they're scared that their budget won't match up to their expectations. Key requirements are lots of natural light, and space for an art studio. They'll also need a garden ample enough for Emma to grow fruit and veg, and all in a city centre location. Armed with a budget of no more than £250,000, Phil sets about finding suitable properties within walking distance of Aberdeen's city centre bars and restaurants.

The Broomhill flat
After viewing four properties with bags of potential, Mike and Emma were torn between two properties – a two bedroom conversion in one of their favourite areas, and a three bedroom, split level flat a bit further out. It's the classic space vs location conundrum.
On reflection, the two bedroom flat in Broomhill wins out. Phil lodges an offer of £250,000 on behalf of Mike and Emma, with the vendors marketing the place at offers over £230,000. The offer is accepted, and after signing on the dotted line the flat now belongs to this very happy couple.
