Meadow Gate, Kirstie's craft project

Meadow Gate From Kirstie's Homemade Home

Kirstie Allsopp is on a mission to transform a dilapidated country cottage in Devon into the ultimate 'homemade' home, with everything either made in the UK, or made by her. She wants to prove that it's possible to get our hands on the good stuff, without having to import cheap and ubiquitous products from overseas.

Each week, Kirstie renovates a room and creates a unique and personal dream interior. And where better to start than the room that's going to be at the heart of it all? The kitchen. For inspiration, Kirstie noses around Lanhydrock House, with one of the finest Victorian kitchens in the country, and gets queen of vintage nostalgia Cath Kidston's advice on quirky table design. She also visits her parents' home and reveals the inspiration that has shaped her take on interiors.

Kirstie has a go at blowing glass

Kirstie Allsopp blowing glass. From Kirstie's Homemade home

Kirstie's passionate about great British craftspeople, and three talented artisans let her have a go at making bespoke items that could last her a lifetime. She has a throw on the potting wheel, turns a lump of glass into a beautiful tumbler, and gets to grips with a sewing machine.

As the country feels the pinch, Kirstie, who loves a bargain, shows how to bag hidden gems at knock-down prices as she buys antiques and collectables at her local market. And even better: she's searching out the free stuff, looking for unloved items that she can give the TLC they deserve as she goes skip-diving!

  1. I also loved the series, but missed a couple of episodes. I was sad that it finished after only 5. I would also love to know if a DVD or Book will be available any time soon. Kaye, Australia

  4. Another visitor to this site from New Zealand. I love Kirsties Homemade Home. Its wonderful watching the house taking shape. And also the programe applies here as well as in the U.K. The skills involved, glass blowing etc can be done here. And the show has inspired me to revamp my home following some of Kirsties ideas. Many thanks. I love it.

  7. My name is Sandra and I live in Christchurch, New Zealand with my East-end of London born husband Richard. I absolutely love watching programmes with Kirsty and Phil. Last night we had episode one of Kirsty's Homemade Home where she did up the kitchen. Thank you for all your tips Kirsty, just love the programme - can't wait to see what you do with the bathroom next week, (although I could look at all the different rooms of the house here on this page, but will refrain). Of all the programmes I watch from the UK (Coro Street, Eastenders, etc) anything with Kirsty and Phil takes precedence. We especially love watching 'Location' with the beautiful big English houses and simply splendid huge farmhouse kitchens. My husband's sister and family live in Welywn Hertfordshire. We came over for 5 1/2 weeks in 2002 and I loved every single thing about the UK. Personally, I can not get enough of TV programmes made in the UK especially on the Living Channel or Food TV. Another absolute favourite (and gorgeous looking too) is James Martin. But back to Kirsty and Phil. They are so wonderful to watch, I love the banter and comments between them - and of course Kirsty wins nearly all the time. She really keeps Phil in check. We get lots of laughs from the conversations between them. I hope the pair of them are busy making more series of 'Location, Location, Location', and Relocation, Relocation'. I would be very upset if I didn't have them to watch 2 or 3 times per week. Keep up the excellent work Kirsty (and Phil) you make my week. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Very best Regards, Sandra

  12. I would just like to say how much I enjoyed Kirstie's programme. I thought it was refreshing to see her decorate and refurbish her house with things that she liked rather than what was currently in fashion. And of course the end result was great. Well done Kirstie. Best wishes.

  39. I heard that this new serie by Kirstie Allsopp was rather criticised by some journalists (A.A.Gill A.Pearson) Well they are sad souls. It is a feel-good tv program, comforting , talking about making pretty things, it's nothing to create a storm about, a good escapist home tv. Tell Kirstie to ignore this sad people who can't enjoy anything, and that her show is very pleasant and interesting ! It's called Escapism and it's good !
