Kirstie Allsopp is seeking to transform a dilapidated country cottage in Devon into the ultimate 'homemade' home, with everything either made in the UK, or made by her own fair hands. She wants to prove that it's possible to get hold of the good stuff without having to import cheap products from overseas. Each week, Kirstie renovates a room and creates a unique and personal dream interior.

Bathroom Chair. From Kirstie's Homemade Home

This week she's renovating three bathrooms: a downstairs loo, a family shower room with a seaside theme, and a luxury movie-star-style main bathroom suite.

For inspiration she gets a rare peek into the beautiful home of top interior designer Anouska Hempel. She also visits Burgh Island Hotel, one of Britain's finest art deco buildings, renowned for its glamorous 1930s bathrooms. Plus she looks round a flat in Knightsbridge where small really can be beautiful and everything is not always as it seems.

Kirstie is also on the make as she attempts some traditional home crafts. With the help of a royal candle maker she learns how to make scented candles. Alongside a master craftswoman she learns the art of stained glass, designing and producing her own leaded light catcher. She also attempts some screen printing as she prints some dramatic images onto handmade wallpaper to hang in her downstairs loo.

Finally she's dishing out savvy tips for antiques shops to help us all bag ourselves a great British bargain.

  18. Hi Tianne Those bathrooms were by Anouska Hempel, and they're in her own home, so you won't see them on her site, I wouldn't have thought. There are pics of it here tho': http://www.channel4.com/4homes/design-style/design-byspace/bathroom/bathroom-designs-ideas/bathroom-design-kirstie-allsopp-s-top-tips-09-04-23_p_1.html. Our advice for small bathrooms - good lighting and loads of mirrors! Check out our galleries in Design By Space: bathrooms for ideas and advice. Good luck!

  19. Inspired by your show, I am attempting a bathroom makeover on a shoestring and I was really impressed by the "hotels bathrooms" featured by the designer Anoushka ??? What was her name? Is there a website that I can view? Problem - I have a treyfolds grey enamel bathroom suite, situated at the top of the house, with a slopping roof and no sky light but a very small window. I don't want to change the grey suite but devise a chick modern complementary scheme that oozes character for my bathroom - on a shoestring!
