  2. Could you tell me the best way to keep white shirts white and stop those annoying yellow underarm patches appearing. I don't know if it is due to deoderant or sweat, but either advice on getting rid of them and returning the whites to white, or preventing them happening in the future, would be very much appreciated!

  4. Not scrubbing the pots and pans! Stuck on food will come off easy if you put the pot or pan back on the stove with a bit of water on medium-low flame. The food will loosen before it even gets to boil. It's quicker than just soaking.

The vinegar smell soon goes and is better than the smell of wee. I've tried everything over the years to get cat wee smell out and finally found this works.' Try it and let me know!

  40. I left a lot of my clothes at a friend's house and he had 7 cats living there. I am not sure how the cat smell of urine got into the clothing and everything else, but how do I remove the smell of the odor out of my clothing and other items? The cats did not spray or pee on anything just that the place had the air conditioner running and no open windows for a week while she was gone...not sure how the smell of the cat odors got on and into everything?

  44. Cat wee - I have had a huge problem. Vinegar is the best thing otherwise lemon juice, or biologicaal washing liquid. However you may find you just move the problem to another spot. Only now that one of my 2 cats has died has the offending female stopped spraying unless there is an unexpected invasion of territory by a 2 or 4 legged visitor. In the end I succummbed to an indoor litter tray changed everyday. using a small amount of litter and shredded newspaper. (Supermarket basic litter is cheapest) Around the carpet edge i had to remove the rusty stained gripper rod. On carpets you might think you have cleaned the surface but the problem goes through to the floorboards

  58. easy way to get the smell of any wee/nasty whiffs out of your carpets, mix together some warm water and bicarbonate of soda to make a solution and spray it on the area! this should be done after you have scrubbed it out as per below. if its really bad, sprinkle bicarb on the offending area, rub it in (with a cloth or something you dont want wee hands!) leave it for 10 mins and then hoover it up and then use the spray! also a quick tip for cleaning out scummy microwaves - mix vinegar and boiling water in a bowl, put it in the microwave on full power for ten mins, then pretty much all of the scum should come straight off!

  65. Hi Spy I've always found that washing the stain with COLD water first is the best way to tackle it (preferably while the blood is still wet). Once that's done, you'll need to pre-soak it with a washing soda or pre-wash detergent, then machine was it with a biological detergent on a hot wash (or as hot as the fabric allows). That should do it!

  66. Hi Nicky You'll need to keep trying I'm afraid - if it's already faded, it suggests that if you keep at it, it will eventually come off. However, if you feel you're getting nowhere with it, it's time to call in the pros...

  67. Hi Amie CLEANING SILVER JEWELLERY I use half a jar of hot or cold water, some strips of aluminium foil and a tablespoon of salt. The aluminium with the salt and water acts as a magnet for the tarnish on the silver. Just drop a few pieces of silver jewelry in the mixture for a few minutes and then take it out and wipe it off - if it's not too badly tarnished, the tarnish will be gone. If your things are really badly tarnished, it still works but you may have to repeat it a couple of times. Simple!

  68. Hi Joanne It's really hard to get stains out of wood - especially if you don't know what they are. I'm assuming you've tried some washing up liquid and a gentle scourer? Or perhaps tentatively a diluted solution of bleach with a soft cloth (be very careful not to overdo this, though)? Failing that, it might be a case of professional help - or rubbing down the table and repolishing. You can buy wood restorer from DIY stores - perhaps try that too before you do anything too drastic. Good luck and let us know what works

  76. Try using biological washing maching powder in hot water to clean smells out of your carpet (Test a small patch first) When I puppy trained both our dogs they had accidents and this got rid of even the odd hidden spot which we had missed (they can get sneaky puppies and hide!) Hope that helps. As the "scent" had gone they stopped returning to the same spot, which made it easier to train them.

My children could of possibly spilt something on it as you could not see if you spilt anything on it, it could have been there for a while and sunk in to the table. Could you please help i would like to remove this stain if possible. Thank you Joanne

  86. Hi, I have recently moved into a student flat and the floorboards are dirty! I have used soapy water to clean most of the dirt off but I don't think they have ever been cleaned before I moved in. Can anyone suggest anything to use to clean them properly? They are original wood not laminate. Thanks

  87. Hi Hannah The easiest thing to do here is to paint the marks with a satin paint, allow it to dry, rub it down very lightly, then just go over it with your new paint colour (probably need a couple of coats). This should stop the oil from the sticky tack leaking through the new paint colour.

  88. Hi Freya Blackcurrant juice on the ceiling. I'd laugh if it wasn't for the fact I once spent a day removing Weetabix from my kitchen ceiling... It's pretty tricky to get off once it's soaked in and dried. You can buy some good stain removers for walls, but I'm pretty sure it won't tackle Ribena. Have you tried a solution of diluted bleach? Failing that, you might have to get the paintbrush out...

  91. Hi Louise Really sorry to say that just about nothing will remove nail varnish. Varnish remover might fade the mark - or it might be that a professional dry cleaner can tackle it, but it's not guaranteed.

  92. Hi Diana You can get leather cleaning kits from companies such as Lakeland (www.lakelandlimited.co.uk), assuming you haven't already been successful with a damp cloth? If the marks are widespread and in an obvious place, I'd suggest testing with the kit first in a not so obvious area. If you're happy with the results, go for it. If in doubt, get a pro in to do the job for you. Good solution? Don't let anyone with shoes sit on it!

  93. Hi Dianne Chewing gum on the carpet: ideally you need to harden it - if it isn't already hardened, hold an icecube (or cubes) in a plastic bag to it. Once it has, pick it off with a blunt knife, then give the carpet a good clean with a carpet cleaner that's suited to your carpet's material (ie, wool, nylon or wool/nylon mix - it'll say on the tin). Then, ban whoever brought it indoors from the house. Forever.

  99. Hi Hannah Re your dog wee stained carpet... it kind of depends how long they've been there, but since it's obviously at least 24 hours, it might be a pro job. Have a look at the tips I've given the lady with the potty training daughter for cleaning. if that doesn't work, you'll have to call in a man (or lady) who can...

  100. Hi Sejal, That is indeed gross. In the past, I've used a scraper (the kind you'd use to remove wallpaper) to literally scoop this grime off, followed by a scrub with bleach or a really tough cleaning product and an abrasive cloth, followed by a rinse, finishing off with soapy water. Sadly, elbow grease is always the most effective option.

  102. Hi Katrina Cornflour? Are you sure about that?! It might have been vinegar, which is a traditional window-cleaning substance, diluted with lots of water to create a weak solution. My personal feeling though is that it makes your rooms pretty smelly, so abit of elbow grease, some soapy water, a squeegee, a lint-free (preferably E-Cloth) and you're there. It's not quick, it's messy, but you get a shine... Failing that, pay someone to do it...

  103. Hi Marie I've got polished marble floors at home and I find that a simple solution of diluted washing up liquid does not leave (very much of) a residue. To buff out any that is left, I charge around the room with a couple of E-Cloths strapped to my feet! (I'm sure there are better ways of doing it, but it's fun...). Anyone else?

  105. Ahhh, Emma, I'm right there with you - my daughter's at the same stage. Can I just check you're mopping it up right - if it's on a carpet, you need to flush it with cold water and blot blot blot before you sponge it with carpet shampoo (otherwise, you're just effectively moving the wee about!). If the smell persists, you need to buy a deodoriser, such as Febreze - try the supermarket. Good luck!

  116. Hi there A Hopwood Sorry to hear about your son's trainers. Ermm... assuming it's not actually cat pee, it's almost certainly caused by a build up of bacteria because he's not let his shoes air properly after wearing them. It might be too late for this pair, but... you can buy deodorising sprays (try somewhere like John Lewis or a good local dept store), then encourage him to a) not wear them every single day, b) put them somewhere they can air properly when he's taken them off or c) stuff them with newspaper once he's taken them off - this should help to soak up some of the moisture and (therefore) smells. Failing that, you might have to ban them from the house. Anyone else got any good ideas?
