Kim was born in Eastney, near Portsmouth. She first noticed the joy of cleaning while watching her fastidious grandmother who cleaned schools for a living, soaking clothes, scrubbing the step and polishing like crazy.

However, Kim's first job after leaving school at 15 was in a high-class fashion shop, ironing the clothes that would be displayed in the window.

She took up her first live-in cleaning job after moving to Liverpool, cleaning from morning till night. A variety of jobs followed: at a toy factory, a holiday camp, as a beautician, a social worker and even a model in a clothes catalogue. Kim also started knitting, and founded a handmade knitwear company. In 1983 Kim made her television debut, modelling her range of knitwear on Pebble Mill At One with Jeff Banks. It was 20 years before television would rediscover Kim Woodburn.

Before the How Clean Is Your House? screen test, Kim was told she would be meeting someone called Aggie. 'I thought she was the presenter and I was the cleaner!' she says. As it happens they are both cleaners. Their appeal has also spread to America where they appeared for two years in their show How Clean Is Your House? They also filmed a six-part series for Channel 4 called Too Posh to Wash and in 2006 Kim and Aggie filmed a documentary, When Kim & Aggie Went to Hospital.

Their book How Clean Is Your House? was published in 2003 and became a best-seller. In 2004 they published a book, Too Posh to Wash to accompany their television series. This was then followed in 2006 by another book, Cleaning Bible. In 2006, Kim also published her autobiography, Unbeaten, a powerful and emotional story of a very difficult childhood.

  2. hiya kim I really love watching your programme with aggie. I am always shocked and astounded by the state and filth that some people live in how they can do it is beyond me. ok i am not the worlds most tidiest of people but my home is never like the ones that we see on your show. i get so disheartened though after all yours and aggies and the rest of the teams efforts that they don't appreciate what you have done for them and don't keep it up afterwards. I love to watch to get some tips for myself even my 5 year old and 7 year old watch your programme with me and they always comment how tidy our home is compared to some on the programme. Keep up the good work guys your great and your always welcome for a cuppa at my house anytime alison xx

  3. I saw an episode where they had a great tip on how to get rid of the fly problem at this time of the year, but I can't remember what the fix was. I live in an old house and flys collect in the front hall and upstairs windows this time of year and early spring. What can I use to get rid of them? Thanks, Sue

  5. Hi I am a bit cheeky and ask three questions. First: I live on a boat and so suffer horribly from spiders. They LOVE boats. I went away to work for 6 weeks and came back to some pretty hefty webs, big big spiders and lots of little spiders which I am getting rid of as I see them. BUT - spider poo is like tar! Do you have any tips for getting Spider poo off wood, especially, and big old webs off the outside of the boat which is painted metal - just like a car. Any help would be gratefully received. Secondly - I remember seeing an episode where Aggie used Lemon oil and water on a duster to clean and freshen wood. Again - the boat is lined with wood so I thought it a great solution. BUT I am having real problems finding the lemon oil she used. She had a big tin of it so I didnt think it was the stuff in the little bottles - the kind you get from a herbal shop. Can you help me find the right stuff. Finally - sorry to go on - I have a dual fuel stove which is going 24x7 when winter hits hard. Thing is that cleaning out the ash and stuff causes clouds of dust (which I have yet to tackle from last winter I have to admit). Its such a pain on my venetian blinds and surfaces - any tips for reducing and removing that kind of dust??? Its a long shot - I know you cant work miracles. I love the show and particularly liked Scott - who was suitably ashamed of his high bug count! I hope he gets a girlfriend soon. You might consider a boat clean show - there are some unique problems from duck and goose poo, those spiders, keeping food fresh, and unique safety concerns. Ta diane

  6. I love watching Kim and Aggie and have been able to follow many cleaning tips. I have a problem I need some help with. I bought from John Lewis yesterday a cool box. I removed the label eventually, but have been left with the glue stuck to the cool box. Any ideas how to get the glue off

  7. On you of your shows Aggie was cleaning knives with a onion. I have found that if you put a wooden match between your teeth, the onion want make your eyes water. You just leave the head of the match sticking out. My husband said I look silly. But it works.

  9. Hello from across the "Pond". Am actually watching the "girls" as I type. We LOVE "How Clean is Your House" here in the States. Am so glad to see that they have come to the US. Watching their shows filmed here in California, I'm Northern, near San Francisco, they're in Southern Ca. I'd be curious to hear what they think about our country. How about the houses? When watching the UK ones, I noticed the square footage is so much smaller... I've picked up some very good hints from the programs. Keep it up Ladies!!!!!

  10. Hey there, I've loved your show since I first found it on BBC America. I have to admit I'm terrible at housecleaning, in fact I hate it. However, I have gotten some wonderful tips from your show. Cases in point: I have some windows for which the shades are never opened. Recently I opened one- it was a disaster. But a bit of lemon juice straightened it out. And my favorite? I have a lot of glass and ceramic dishes that I cook in. I have always had to soak them forever, then fret over how to finish cleaning them (the plastic 'sponges' never got the dishes really clean and the steelwool always scratched up the glass and made it cloudy). Using your tip for salt as a cleanser worked wonders! I let it soak for an hour or so, clean out what I can with the plastic, then add a bit of water and a LOT of salt to get a paste. The dishes come out spotless, the cleaning agent washes away harmlessly, nothing stinks, and the dishes aren't ruined! My favorite tip so far, thanks bunches!

  14. I loved kims book unbeaten. I come from Portsmouth myself and have a similar up bringing to Kim. It is good to see how a survivor has improved her life by fighting for what she believed in. It has help give me the strength and determination to put the past behind me. With kind regards Tracy Keenan x
