Kevin, I have worked in construction all my life and have hands on experiences from concept, design, construction and buildability. In my opinion the designs we are producing these days are encouraging very insular community living. Families are encouraged to retract into their dwelling rather than interacting with their neighbours. I was born and brought up in the SW of England where interaction was common. Now, it is clear that this interaction with your neighbours is becoming a thing of the past. I have my own theories on this but what I will say is 'when you live in a village in the SW you can spot a person or group of people from the big city down for the weekend a mile off - THEY DON'T HAVE THE SKILLS TO INTERACT'. I'm not getting at people from the city but I am concerned that as a nation we are creating a society which is inducing mistrust - this is reflecting on our design and architecture - which in turn fuels mistrust and crime because of the lack of interaction between people. PS I'm not a long haired sandle wearing nut case just a normal person (I think)with a concern about where we are going as a nation - I firmly believe our architectural design has a huge impact on how we develop from here Neil W
