  1. We are just about to start the renovation of a four story victorian semi detached villa just off Hove sea front. It was part of a nursing home made up of four pairs of origional buildings which have now been separated and sold. We are the last to commence work which we hope to do next week and wondered if this would be an interesting project for the team? The house has been gutted and we are just in the final throws of agreeing details with the architect. We have now two choose between the last two builders who are tendering for the work. One being a small local builder who is known to us and the other a large company with a good reputation. We could do with some help in making the right choice! We think we have a resonable budget but it is not as much as the other owners appear to have spent so we need to spend it wisely. We hope to end up with a lower ground floor flat and a five bedroom house above. The house has an interesting history and retains some very beautiful origional features. I look forward to your response. Kind regards Myra Bianco

  3. I live on board a 100 year-old Dutch barge on the French Canal du Midi. I have recently acquired planning permission to convert an old stone barn and stables into my home of approx 300 sq metres. The property sits on 2,500 sq metres with 100 metres of canal frontage on one of the most attractive sections of the canal with a 300 year old stone bridge and next to the Chateau de Jouarres. The canal is a UNESCO World Heritage site, the project is subject to the regulations of the Batiments de France, and the architect's plans have been approved. An open staircase and atrium to roof height, with water feature, will provide the central piece of the ground floor, with large (3m x 3m) glass 'baies vitrees' in place of barn doors north and south. French windows will lead from living room to roofed terrace overlooking the canal. My budget is limited, so I am starting with the ground floor and leaving the upper floor and re-tiling the roof until funds permit (should be interesting...!) while I continue living on my barge until completion, and earning my living as a yacht delivery skipper, which will entail the occasional 3-4 week absence from the project. However, I have already signed a contract for geo-thermal under-floor and water heating and must complete the main work before end 2010 in order to qualify for a 25% tax rebate! I would be very keen to work with GD on the project if you think the above could be of interest to your viewers.

  4. Would a new build project in the city of Rotorua, New Zealand be of any interest? Rotorua has recently been nominated the most beautiful city in NZ for the fifth time in ten years. The building site which is elevated above the city and surrounding forestry with 270 degree views has been described by everyone who visits it as breath taking and the most desirable site in the city. The project is currently in the design stage with construction starting in 2010.

  5. 50 year old brickwork tutor built loads of houses for other people - and now has an opportunity to build own(although got to get married first). Planning permission granted. Ideally; looking to knock the existing house down and re-build to high quality in record time.

  9. We bought our building land in 2004 in France. All on going, but do you have a tv programme somewhere which shows the real life exploits of ex-pats, thinking they can do it in 3 years, and has now become a longer- term plan. This is real life, four kids comong home and spoiling our escape!! Building work goes well, we are building 3 sites at same time, 2 new build, one renovation. Big discussions re services and feed wires(??)over sumptuous suppers. Two familes live there already, but our situation is that we run a B&B in UK, as well as fire service and bulding works here to supplement the project in France. Can we interest you in a touch of rural France and how to exist, job wise here and there?

  11. Hi, we are due to start our project in approximately eight weeks time. My wife, three children and I are due to embark on an exciting project. One year ago we moved to our house which used to be three individual farm cottages which were knocked into one property. The property came with just under five acres of land which includes a very nice natural pond. We want to transform the property into a light and modern home for us all to enjoy. The overall extention to the property is 133% larger overall than the original size of the house. As a fan of grand designs we would love to take part. Thanking you for your time. Brian and Leanne Duthie
