I cant help but think this couple werent unlucky, but rather ill prepared. Many people throughout the show tried to guide them to the path of least resistance, but narrow mindedness got in the way. When i first started watching GD i found Kevin to be sometimes a little pesemistic, however the longer i watch it, the more i realise Kevin is not just a host, but a designer himself with a wealth of knowledge and experience. If i had his experience i would be much more blunt when dealing with people like this.
Thank you so much, Ian, for letting us know what's happening. What a shame :( I guess they had to give up and go elsewhere, do something else. Such a waste. :(
With that build they didn't design it. First ever step before you build your dream home. 1. Make or get someone to make a design. 2. Get planning permission. 3. Build. 4. Live in. Also wasn't it 3 meters tall(about 10 feet). Strong winds are dangerous espceailly at sea. The higher up the stronger the wind gets.
It's still on a mooring in the Ray Gut off of Leigh on Sea. Occasionally there is a barge moored up next to it - but no idea if it's them delivering something or someone else taking advantage. On occasions I've seen lights on - but very rarely these days. I haven't been to have a close look this year, but last year there were no obvious signs of work being done on it. A couple of small windows broken and it's just going to get more and more beaten up. It's quite exposed when the tide's in. Sad, but it's directly in view out of my lounge window - so a good talking point when people visit!
The filosophy behind the whole project was absolutely beautifull, pitty that the host of the show did not see the beauty of it. I think the house will be spactacular and with a little bit of imagination it already is. I just saw the episode in the netherlands where i'm from, but as a photographer i hope to see the house when it's finished one day..maybe even to photograph it!
hi! just saw the water mill episode with chris oswald. wow, i love it. will you be showing the house finally finshed sometime? hope to hear from you soon. thanks!
This unlucky couple's attempt at a brave new world appears to have collapsed once they tried to moor the home on the banks of Kent's River Medway. The 'eco-barge' now lies abandoned a mile off the Essex coast, on an isolated mooring. It is believed that unenlightened council red-tape saw the luckless couple chased from pillar to post. Local government officers lie awake at night worrying about the potential avoidance of council tax such floating no-fixed-abodes present. When such projects should be allowed to flourish. Houseboat communities, more often than not, add to society's self-reliance, well being, and character.
I am a curious person who would like to know what on earth he did to be evicted. Also would love to see more follow ups and see the completed projects. Would love to see how the gull wing house turned out when the roof got wet when it wasnt supposed to.
Hello Kevin and the Grand Design team. Will you be showing Chris & Zse's completed house boat - eco barge? If not as a re-visit by Kevin, then please at least post some photos or preferrably a video on the web site. There are two TV shows I watch religously, apart from them nothing else. Grand Designs and Top Gear are my hits and I think i get withdrawal like symptoms when I dont see a completed project. At least if you post piccies on the internet i can log on straight after the show to get my complete fix. HELP PLEASE IT IS PAINFUL Kaz
It would be good to know which episode of which series is being shown when the shows are repeated. All we have to go on at the moment is Kevins receding hairline! Also is it posible to return to the ones that were never finished (on screen)? the water tower new build extension shown earlier this week; they never did anything with the water tower, have they since? There are a number that were never quite finished, and I appreciate they ran out of time, but it still leaves us at home curious. Lesley
