Kevin's View

Kevin McCloud. London: The Glass and Timber House

This is, of course, a tale of two houses, and more unusually, two materials, wood and glass. It's really unusual to find a project that's driven through with such rigour and such precision.

Normally things get compromised by the demands of budget, schedule and lack of attention. Bill, however, is solid. Bill's a man of wood. He has pursued quality here without compromise and without flinching. The benefit of this is that if you are prepared to place your faith in good architecture and see it through to the very last detail, then it will reward you more than you can ever imagine.

  3. Hello, Really enjoyed this episode - as we do for all your programmes. I'm interested to know the name of one of the plants shown in the final "walk around". The plant in question was a cluster of green foliage with tall stems with round white flowers, almost like a golf ball. If possible, can you please provide a name for this plant and whether you think it wold survive Sydney's hot summer weather. Love the show - when are you coming "down under" to do a program?? 5. I recall from the programme that the total lighting load was only 200W - obviously LEDs. I would be very interested to know exactly what type and wattage of lamps were used, and roughly how many of a given type per square metre in each area.
