4. Hi great job, I was fascinated by the bathroom and the use of glass bottles. I haven't been able to find much information.I would like to construct a fence with glass bottle pliers in a similar design that you used in your feature wall on the outside of that fabulous home congratulations.Could you forward, What mortar or product is used between bottles and any other info you think with help me. 7. Use your browsers folks! I've been interested in this stuff for years, and there's a wealth of information out there. They've been around since the 70's, inspired by a man called Micheal Reynolds, and aren't they just the most elegant solution for using up 'waste' materials. Incidentally there's an earthship visitor centre in Fife, and Earthship Brighton community centre which are primarily intended to give an idea of how self contained/ sustainable living works. Maybe there's hope yet amongst the more enlightened planning authorities !

8. Grate idea useing tyers why the problems in this country with it, a good way of useing a matieral that we have problems with. No fier risk as they are covered completley with other matirelas that dont burn ,it may encorage more pepole to try self build.

10. To everyone enquiring about the bottle walls. The cutting of glass wine/mineral water bottles can be done with a standard electric tile cutter. In the film you can see that each glass unit is made from two bottle bottoms which are taped together with what I assume is "gaffer tape". For more info about earthship construction get hold of Mike Reynolds books on the subject. It was his idea . Check out Earthship.org as well.

11. as with Susan and Rachel, I too was intrigued by the bottle placement in the walls. Am I right in thinking that each glass "window" is in fact two bottles placed end to end with the necks removed ? I saw them cutting off wine bottle necks to place in the mortar.I have cut glass with a diamond blade and running water for stained glass construction (water stops chips from flying and cools the blade)....but the girls on the film appeared to be using something like a static angle grinder clamped to a saw bench....potentially dangerous. Presumably cutting glass is only like cutting tiles ????

12. A very watchable episode and great to get away from posh paws with very deep pockets although a bit strange. I have a suggestion for GD, I have banged on for some time about more info on the technical detail, but one way around this may be to have a chaser programme just on the missing details of the technicalities of builds as this would greatly help viewers, a bit like Dr Who Confidential. This episode has a very good website which is a great help although there is nothing written on the contruction issues and no detailed plans. A full spec would be great. I thought I heard Kevin say that French building regs are purely the responsibility of the constructors. Is this really the case as things could surely go badly wrong?

14. The programme topic was fascinating and thought provoking. I am in the process of buying an old property in Spain and would like to know where I can obtain more information on the solar panels, water retainers and how to build a glass bottle wall. I want to retain and reuse as much surface water and waste water as possible from the winter (wetter)months for the summer irrigation of the garden. If I built an underground receptical, would bacteria develope in the hot climate? Is there a special glass cutter to cut off the bases of the bottles?

17. Best house this series. Beautiful individual house constructed by the couples own hard labour love and commitment to their dream home. This was a HOME not just the result of a huge pile of money. Loved the glass walls and the bed was to die for. Grand Designs still the best hour of tv to be had.

19. I have a property that I intend to convert into an earth sheltered builing, very similar in design to the constrution by daren and Adi. I would like to know more of the technical detail, that is heating cost, water run off, drainage. how much energy to you use/make? Do you make enough? Is the glass insulation on the front of the house suficient for the winter period? This stikes me as a truly wonderful build, with lots of work from the people that will live in it, not a sack of bank loans to create a build that most of us can't even consider. Sustainability is a stong consideration, no more bills, therefore not being a slave to the commute to work and the mortgage company. I would love to visit and talk with Daren & Adi about this in more detail if that was possible, I would give you a week of labour also. Fantastic project/episode.

22. I noted that the stud partitions were faced in Fermacel, but infilled with a solid insulating material to provide mass and store some heat. The material was not mentioned. I am about to construct my on house with stud walls and Fermacel internally and would be interested in more information

24. Re Christine's comment, we use a wood pellet stove to run our central heating system and heat the water. It was installed about 18 months ago and we love it. The company we used is based in Yorkshire and the stove is Italian. Google 'Palazzi' and 'Idrofox' for examples as they come in many funky colours and designs, and some models just heat the room, and others run the whole system as in our house. We order the pellets through the same company and so far we ave had pellets made in Sweden, France and Ireland. You must use porper pellets and not just any bits of wood as they need to be the correct density and not damp. Hope this helps

26. Well done !! It is so wonderful to see that it is possible to build an eco house on very little money. It looks really cozy. How great to know it is so eco friendly ! Please can we have more Grand Designs where the budget is not a bottomless purse because it will inspire a lot of us who do not have a huge budget to build our dream houses.

27. Brilliant. Thought this was a great project. Wish we could build this in the UK, but with all the health and safety nonsense and spineless planners in local councils, it would never happen. Would like to know where this guy bought the rubberised roofing. We have been battling with a flat roof for years, and are desperate to know where to get the roofing stuff and learn the techniques of applying it. Could someone help us please? Thanks

Enjoyed the Groundhouse project.some wonderful ideas,I caught site of a wood pellet stove,not the wood burning stove,we are keen to find out more about these as they are environment friendly can anyone help with more information we saw one for the first time at an exibition last week here in Spain our Spanish was not good enough to find out what we wanted to know. We also liked the use of the glass bottoms as decoration are they easy to cut and how? we wondered. The house had a very homely look about it ,cosey unlike last weeks I am sure it will pass the test of time ,well done . Chrissy & Ray .

29. Great house with some fab. ideas. Please advise on the type of solar panels water retainer used or where I may find further advice. We have just bought a ruin in central portugal that has not been lived in for approx 25 years but which we intend to move to but requires re roofing water and elect connection and some form of heating.
