In November 2006, they took over the King’s Head, the pub just across the market square from the Crown and Castle. It has proved a roaring success, serving Adnam’s beers and decent wines, as well as the kind of traditional pub food it is now hard to find, e.g. (big, whole, home-battered) scampi and chips, steak and ale pie (with proper shortcrust lid), farmhouse bread sandwiches with straightforward fillings - Montgomery cheddar, local crab, smoked salmon and Suffolk-cured ham - home-made soup, ploughman’s lunch, deep-fried local cod and chips, and Suffolk pork pies with pickles. Ruth is insistent it is not a gastropub, but a traditional, village pub that serves decent, unpretentious food.
