Rich: Starting with the most important matter – is your biodynamic wine now available to buy, and were you pleased with the fruits (no pun intended) of your labour?
Monty: Yes, you can buy it from Adnams who have their own pubs, sell mail order to the public and via their own chain of ‘Cellar & Kitchen’ shops; £7.99 per bottle. I wanted to make a simple wine for everyday drinking that doesn’t cost the earth (pun intended) and yeah, I succeeded.
Rich: Did you really put your life savings on the line for the project, and if you did were you ever in serious danger of losing everything?
Monty: I did invest my life savings but as these were pitiful – five books on wine written, never a single penny in royalties! I could only afford to rent, rather than buy a vineyard. What this means is when you buy my wine you are also having to pay off my bank loan and nasty bankers’ interest charges, so every penny you spend goes on the wine, the soil and NOT to a faceless banker with a capital W!
