Rich: Are you still in touch with Linzie, your hired help from the programme?

Monty: I haven't spoken to Linzie for a while - I've sent her some pictures of our time in France. We certainly had an up-and-down relationship when she was there! She would probably admit that she could have pushed herself a little bit harder while she was there, but she's not here to defend herself so it's not fair to judge too much. To her credit she told me at the end of the project that she now knows wine growing isn't for her! She's a city girl at heart. I was glad I chose her though - she was the best candidate by a long way and I wanted someone who needed a fresh start. I wanted a blank canvas. She’d had problems in her personal life and really wanted to make changes.

When she was in France it was hard for her because she's a single mum and her son was back in the UK. I thought she'd have a bit more practical ability (think hammering nails into wood, digging holes with a trowel and so on) and so that was a bit of a shock for me. It was a source of tension because it was my project, my money, my pride on the line but I think she was pleased with the wine and the experience in the end.
