When they turn up at the bottle factory, Monty drops a bombshell. He has the mad idea of sticking red wine in a clear, glass bottle. "Doing something a bit different might be quite nice," he explains, "but also it’s partly to try and be slightly environmentally aware. In England, a lot of green glass just gets chucked away, but there is a market for recycled clear glass."
But the bottling expert - with help from Sylvana - explains to Monty that heat and light could adversely affect the wine if it is not protected by a darker glass... so Monty buckles and sticks with tradition. He chooses a burgundy style green glass, which costs from around 20p to 40p a bottle.
