Two years ago, few would have believed that properties on Spain’s most popular Costas would go under the hammer for up to half their original asking price, but that’s what is set to take place at the first ever A Place in the Sun auction, in London.
Since the peak of the Spanish holiday homes market in early 2007, many buyers have been waiting to see how fast and fierce the decline in Spain’s property market would be. And the answer to their question is: dramatic. Over the past two-and-a-half years, prices have dropped by an average of 30 per cent, although in some areas of chronic oversupply prices have fallen by up to 50 per cent. To tackle this, Spain’s house-builders are keen to get these unsold holiday homes off their books and, consequently, one of Europe’s most dramatic housing stock clearances is under way.
To help you find some of the most striking bargains, Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun is staging its first ever property auction in Central London on Sunday 13th December 2009, bringing to auction a portfolio of properties with reserve prices that represent amazing value and unequalled discounts.
