Troy and Sally have rented in the UK since their American house was destroyed in hurricane Ivan - so will they choose serene Salisbury or fantastic Florida?

Jonnie's working with a budget of £350,000 in and around picturesque Salisbury, but for that this couple want three or four bedrooms, an office, a big kitchen and secluded garden. That's a big ask, even with the housing market in decline.

Across the pond in the sunshine state, Jasmine's working with a slightly smaller budget at £300,000. You get a lot more house for your cash in comparison to anywhere in the UK, so she's lined up a selection of large luxury homes for Troy to try and sway Sally with. There's even a property in Disney's coveted Celebration development, a real life Wisteria Lane. But will this be enough to convince Sally that the time is right to buy abroad?

All I can say is, there's much more places to live in than just Florida. As for coming to live in the U.S. permanently, unless you have a master's, professional, or a registered nurse or midwifery degree, your chances of emigrating here are close to nil. A lot of Brits seem to think that moving to the U.S. is as simple as moving to Spain, folks, it is not. The only foreigners who have a real shot at immigrating here are Canadians. Everyone else has a bar raised really high above them.

Thanks for your program which I watch and enjoy. I am writing to ask if you can give more information regarding residency and related issues to stay on permenant basis for people with British passport. Surely the only issue isnot just buying in UK or USA. How can we buy, how to obtain mortgage, related costs eg property tax and finally permanet residency. I appreciate if you can also cover the above areas in your program. Many Thanks

As everyone has said, it was a interesting programme. Sally was rather witty, a real natural for TV. Looking at these houses in the suburbs of USA makes me think that you could feel rather isolated living in them.

I was really impressed with the couple, Troy and Sally Leacock who featured on the programme last Friday night. It was a welcome change to other people who have featured on the programme who really do not know what they want and in some cases haven't visited the place they are perhaps looking to buy. What a refreshing couple and eloquent more like this please. Can you let us know if they bought in Florida perhaps do a follow up. Well done for featuring a very interesting couple. A big fan of the show. xx

Florida or Salisbury? As I understand it a UK citizen(s) can only stay in the US for a maximum of 6 months, unless sponsored for a confirmed job or perhaps you have millions to invest etc. Why is that never mentioned. You make it sound as though anyone can go there. Please explain.

I agree with you Nicola - they were amusing but seemed to really be thinking about all the ins and outs of their plans I wish they would do follow up's of all of the Place in the Sun programmes - particularly the one's where people actually move abroad. For years we have been tempted by seeing people considering property abroad but we have no idea whether any of them have ever actually taken the plunge (and whether it turned out to be a good or bad move)! I avidly follow "Wanted Down Under" - which revisits families that have moved to Oz/NZ - can't we have a similar programme about USA?

I really enjoyed this programme that was shown last week. Normally I tend to switch off as the couples appear to be rather uninteresting, however with Sally and Troy there was something about them, whether it was the way they both had different ideas and opinions, whether it was the banter and humour between them but generally speaking a very entertaining hour ! It would be interesting to see them on a follow up show as to what they finally achieved. Good luck to them and well done on an excellent programme.

Thoroughly enjoyable show! Good to see a couple with an excellent sense of humour, really adds to the entertainment factor of the show. Them having a clear, intelligent understanding of what they wanted , was refreshing. So often the house hunters just follow the presenters and agree with everything they propose! Positive to see a good looking, switched on, business couple changing the mould!

Guys, Do not get carried away with the material side, we have just come back to the UK after spending the last 10 years living in Orlando. We have managed to buy a simular size home here in the UK that we had in Orlando minus the pool. We certainly enjoyed the life in Orlando, but the social aspect between Flordia and the UK is very different, be prepared you will certainly need to work hard to build your social circle. It will take two years to settle but stick with it. GOOD LUCK
