Jonnie Irwin: About Jonnie Irwin

With a dad as a developer, Jonnie Irwin has property in his blood. After graduating with a degree in estate management he worked as a surveyor and has since valued, acquired and sold all types of property.

Jonnie's field of expertise is with advising businesses, such as shops, pubs and hotels, on buying and selling. With such in-depth experience behind him, Jonnie decided to embark on a career in TV, where he could put his specialist skills to further use.

He landed his first job as presenter of the home leg of A Place In The Sun Home or Away and has just finished filming his third series. 'These last 3 years have been amazing,' he says. 'I love the interaction with the people I help on the show and we always manage to have a bit of fun - I even enjoy the parts where I get stitched up, though I did bulk a bit when I had to re-enact a battle with an 18-stone Saxon warrior!'

Drawing on his expertise from his professional background and with just the right balance of humour Jonnie is proving a popular new face on Channel 4. He hasn't totally abandoned his previous career, however, and has kept working links with an international property firm and runs a small property and business transfer consultancy.

A keen sportsman, he relishes the chance to try new activities on the show and most recently took part in a toilet-racing event. Perhaps another career change?

  6. I saw Johnny wearing a really awesome red jacket (kinda similar to the one James Dean was wearing on 'Rebel Without a Cause') in an episode where he showed a couple around the Isle of White and Italy. Just thought id bring this up in case anyone knew any place on the net to buy one exactly like it. Would be very greatful

  12. I felt I must write to add my comments relating to last week's Place in the Sun (Home or Away)programme. I too live and work in the New Forest and our policy is very much 'look but don't touch' with regard to forest ponies. Although generally placid, these ponies are semi feral and unpredictable. Feeding them is not only illegal, it is not in the interests of visitors or the animals themselves. The animals become drawn to traffic and the dangers to them from that are obvious. They also pester for food which makes them a nuisance. If this nuisance persists, they are taken off the forest and in many cases destroyed. They are hardy animals and used to the forest diet. Items fed to them by the public are often unsuitable. I would greatly appreciate it if you could broadcast a message during your next programme to deter anyone from feeding the animals. These are not domestic pets. The public and the ponies could be put at risk by encouraging the wrong behaviour.

  13. As an avid fan of your programme and a resident of the New Forest I was delighted to see that last night's programme was to be set in the NF. However I was appalled to see Jonnie encouraging his guests to feed the ponies and especially so from a car. Not only is this illegal we have on average two ponies a week killed by motorists. By feeding the ponies they start to expect it and will approach picnickers and if not fed can become aggressive. The results can be injury to the public and the pony being removed from the Forest and in the worst case put down. For those of us who work in the Forest the sight of a dead pony by the side of the road with a 'Police Aware' sticker stuck to it is heart breaking. I would appreciate it if you would point this out to Jonnie. Otherwise thanks for an excellent programme!

  14. Welcome back. Have missed Jonnie and Jasmine, they make such a great team, although we don't see them together... Any chance of doing an extra special episode with all three of the presenters (Jonnie, Jasmine and Amanda) on the same programme, each showing the potential buyers a property each? 'A Place In The Sun' and 'A Place In The Sun - Home Or Away' are two of the best programmes on tv, keep up the good work! A

  17. I had a query to ask whether the Place in the Sun Team would be able to help in a search for a Finca on the Island of Mallorca. I currently own a property (townhouse) but wish to find a Finca? I know the programme generally assists people currently living in the UK and looking for an overseas property. But is a change ofproperty overseas something that would be considered. Thank You.

  18. I have been trying to locate some information on the Eco-house which was shown on an episode of 'A place in the Sun, Home or Away'. The house was in Norfolkand was apparently of wooden construction. I would be grateful if you could send me some details please. Cest regards, Cliff Evans
