Terracotta tiles are porous, and without adequate sealing will soak up every speck of grime in your kitchen. Take advice when you buy the tiles about the best sealants and cleaners for the floor.

Bear in mind that for the first year after they've been put down, they'll mature - and this ageing cannot be removed with any cleaners.
