Phil McCormick of timber merchants Nick’s Timber notes that the price of oak is rising. 'Oak is now on the move, having been very competitive for the past five years, a result of the wind fall stocks produced by the storms of 2000 – hence the recent oak trend on hard floorings and so on has come to an end.'
Nevertheless, oak is priced at around £60 per cubic foot. In comparison, green oak (which would be used for construction and not on a ‘finished’ floor) is approximately £35 per cubic foot.'
